This home was created by combining two apartments on a penthouse floor in Greenwich Village. The finishes and design are bold and luxurious but still functional for a large family.
edit, fluff, & style
This view of the family room, with the kitchen off tot he right and the dining room in the background. The measurements for this area are roughly 13' by 20'. It's a comfortable room with a great deal of natural light. The panelling, birch and black-trim room dividers, and built-ins are all original to the home. We upgraded the large built-in by replacing the birch doors with glass and custom shelving -- housing not only the television and stereo components, but china and crystal.

Dark-colored walls as a major part of a living space can be really cozy and soothing...It's always about proportion and harmony.

This parlor room was designed to give the homeowner a tranquil place to read, meditate, and listen to music. We chose to mix styles combining more modern elements such as the hanging pendant with old pine pieces such as the repurposed table, originally used to weigh livestock. One of our favorite repurposed itemss are the candle sconces from Spain. Originally roof tiles, it is reported that they are made by laying the wet material across the tilers lap. Women were used for the job as their thighs were slimmer and more shapely. Lucky us!

The cream ottoman offers contrast against the deep grey furnishings in this living space. Placement of the artwork above the couch draws the eye up to highlight the rooms architectural details. Beautiful accessories throughout the space complete the room. Photo: Jeff Kaufman Photography
