Calling this 1890 Victorian home a restoration would be an understatement. The homeowners had all four stories stripped down to the frame and rebuilt with an attached garage and an all-new roof deck. This created a design challenge to tie the garage into the existing structure without sacrificing the traditional Victorian aesthetic. To achieve the final product, a conservatory-style connection was built between the garage and house to both join them together and link each level with a stair tower. Marvin windows played a key role in complementing the curved copper roof and preserving the character and period of the house. The glass left a pleasant transition between the different levels throughout the home.

3. Family photos and art, unhungIt’s all very well to take loads of lovely shots of the kids and the family, in various situations, countries and moods, but the next step requires a bit more time. Getting photos off our phones, printed and then framed means we are one step closer to actually getting them onto the walls. In days gone by, we took our film to the chemist, waited a week, then were shocked to find we’d paid good money for two out of 31 decent photos. - mistressofnone
When renovating this 19th century Greek Revival home, a master bath was added along an interior wall. Restored floor-to-ceiling windows in the adjacent hallway (which links the master bedroom with the children's rooms) allow light to carry into the bath via clerestory windows and frosted glass paneling on the bathroom door. We added period appropriate cabinetry for clothing and linens. Another new cabinet can be accessed from both the hallway and the bathroom, and is for storing towels and other bath needs. Original floor boards and mouldings were all fully restored as well. Doors at each end of the hallway mean that the space can also be used as a dressing area.

This Gambrel style residence has been completely upgraded to satisfy todays’ standards while restoring and reinforcing the original 1885 design. It began as a Summer Cottage accessible by train from Boston, and is now a year round residence. The essence of the structure was maintained, while enhancing every detail. The breadth of craftsmanship is evident throughout the home resulting in a comfortable and embellished aesthetic.
