This basement home office received a top to bottom upgrade. Previously a dark, uninviting space we had the goal to make it light and bright. We started by removing the existing carpeting and replacing it with luxury vinyl. The client's previously owned the walnut sideboard, and we creatively repurposed it as part of the beautiful builtins. Functional storage on the bottom and the bookshelves host meaningful and curated accessories. We layered the most stunning oriental rug and using a teak and concrete dining table as a desk for ample work surface. A soft and delicate roman shade, brightened up the wall paint, replaced the ceiling light fixture and added commissioned artwork to complete the look.

I had the pleasure of working on this office addition in a family services "house". The addition was angular and for offices and a lounge so the layout was challenging. All desks were custom made to fit their unique space.

A tobacco basket is a great place to hold product catalogs as well as a space to hold client samples.

Down the new hallway in the remodeled basement is a light & lively craft room. Vinyl tile flooring and white custom cabinetry creates a wonderland of imagination and productivity. The space includes a home office and a a sliding barn door behind which is even more storage. Design details that add personality include softly curved edges on the walls and soffits, a geometric cut-out on the stairwell and custom cabinetry that carries through all the rooms. Dated built-in bookshelf turned awesome! It was an old oak built-in bookshelf, now it's more like a feature wall. A bit of Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore and botanical wallpaper by Thibaut transformed this space! The client's unique style and personality are reflected in the use of their art collection and memorabilia to style the bookshelf. Photo by Melissa Au

Primal White Laminate flooring from Carolina Home was used on the ceiling to enhance the rustic coastal vibe of the office. For the flooring, COREtec Plus luxury vinyl plank in Hudson Valley Oak with color variations of warm greys and dark toned browns complements the grey in the ceiling and is the perfect mixture of coastal and farmhouse style. For the final touches, the walls were covered in a bright white shiplap, and an oversized recessed niche with cork provides a place for Brittany to display her latest remodels and current design inspiration.

The importance of a properly designed home office ( especially when the space is also used as a meeting-place/showroom ) entails the comfort & positive experience of your customer in the following manner: 1. Exclusive office space with its own entrance separate from rest of home. 2. Ergonomic customer seating and ample presentation surfaces. 3. Dedicated customer computer screen(s) detailing CAD drawings & presentation in a show and tell manner. 4. Proper lighting ( LED lighting has come a long way ) 5. Practical design touches ( hooks for purses, coats, umbrella stand, refreshments area, guest WIFI, etc...) One of the greatest benefits of a home office is the freedom to design it with a distinct identity. In other words, we shouldn’t blend the workplace with the rest of our personal space, aka home.
