Our clients created a new glazed link between two parts of their home and wanted to relocate the kitchen within this space, integrating it with their existing dining area. It was important to them – and to us – that our design was in keeping with the period property, and the end result was magnificent fusion between old and new, creating a fluid link to the rest of their home. The large breakfast bar was finished in solid American walnut and incorporated a bespoke pop-up gin bar, another playful touch. This makes for a stunning showpiece, a surprising feature that acts as a real talking point.

Sometimes an island just doesn't work within the space. The peninsula design feels as though it has been a little forgotten over the last few years. With people preferring to just do an 'L' shape design. Hopefully, this inspires more people that a clever designed peninsula, sometimes offers more benefits than just an 'L' shape or an island. With introductions of the open cubby holes for book storage to soft dress the non-cooking side, you can really have some fun with a peninsula. Photography by Philip Cooper

The McDonough's kitchen is all about contrast. The dazzling Leicht Luna-C fronts in Frosty White and the sink worktop in Glacier White provide the perfect backdrop for darker, earthier shades. That gorgeous marble island in Bianco Eclipsia polished quartzite catches the eye straight away, and the glass splashback in Bronze Mirror adds a touch of luxe. The open-plan kitchen and living area works really well in the McDonough's home, and the two rooms complement each other with their unique décor. The whole space is bright, breezy and fun, with a few touches of the unexpected – they’ve added mismatching chairs around the dining table and pendant lighting in obscure shapes. Contemporary accessories, fruit and flowers give the kitchen a colourful, arty feel.
