This beautiful 18th century Georgian family home is surrounded by parkland with stunning views across the rolling countryside and farmland beyond. The homeowners wanted a classic English kitchen to reflect the Georgian heritage of the home but also one that would suit their busy lives and the needs of their small children. This homeowner wanted to increase the size of her kitchen and make it a family center during gatherings. The old dining room was brought into the kitchen, doubling the size and dining room moved to the old formal living area. Shaker Cabinets in a pale yellow were installed and the island was done with bead board highlighted to accent the exterior. A baking center on the right side was built lower to accommodate the owner who is an active bread maker. That counter was installed with Carrara Marble top. Glass subway tile was installed as the backsplash. The Island counter top is book matched walnut from Devos Woodworking in Dripping Springs Tx. It is an absolute show stopper when you enter the kitchen. Pendant lighting is a multipe light with the appearance of old insulators which the owner has collected over the years. Open Shelving, glass fronted cabinets and specialized drawers for trash, dishes and knives make this kitchen the owners wish list complete.

This cosy cottage, with its low ceilings and uneven walls, needed a bright, functional kitchen that would suit a young family. The bespoke Quebec Yellow timber cabinets, painted in Farrow & Ball Joah’s White, quite literally fit the bill, whilst the English Oak work tops and hand forged iron handles add warmth and character. This formerly small and cramped kitchen switched roles with the extra large eating area resulting in a dramatic transformation that takes advantage of the nice view of the backyard. The small kitchen window was changed to a new patio door to the terrace and the rest of the space was “sculpted” to suit the new layout. A Classic U-shaped kitchen layout with the sink facing the window was the best of many possible combinations. The primary components were treated as “elements” which combine for a very elegant but warm design. The fridge column, custom hood and the expansive backsplash tile in a fabric pattern, combine for an impressive focal point. The stainless oven tower is flanked by open shelves and surrounded by a pantry “bridge”; the eating bar and drywall enclosure in the breakfast room repeat this “bridge” shape. The walnut island cabinets combine with a walnut butchers block and are mounted on a pedestal for a lighter, less voluminous feeling. The TV niche & corkboard are a unique blend of old and new technologies for staying in touch, from push pins to I-pad. The light walnut limestone floor complements the cabinet and countertop colors and the two ceiling designs tie the whole space together.

By using multiple textures, the overwhelming wall of brick was softened and integrated into the space. Note the live edge on the slab of elm, the yarn-like texture in the glass, the perforated stainless steel panels in many doors, and the 1"-square glass tiles in the backsplash. The Hi-Definition laminate also has a textured face. The pattern in the floor tile relates to the hardwood flooring in the adjacent rooms. The island top is Richlite.
