Luxurious modern sanctuary, remodeled 1957 mid-century architectural home is located in the hills just off the Famous Sunset Strip. The living area has 2 separate sitting areas that adorn a large stone fireplace while looking over a stunning view of the city. I wanted to keep the original footprint of the house and some of the existing furniture. With the magic of fabric, rugs, accessories and upholstery this property was transformed into a new modern property.

The architecture of the space is developed through the addition of ceiling beams, moldings and over-door panels. The introduction of wall sconces draw the eye around the room. The palette, soft buttery tones infused with andulsian greens, and understated furnishings submit and support the quietness of the space. The low-country elegance of the room is further expressed through the use of natural materials, textured fabrics and hand-block prints. A wool/silk area rug underscores the elegance of the room. The expansive Living Room features a floating wood fireplace hearth and adjacent wood shelves. The linear electric fireplace keeps the wall mounted tv above at a comfortable viewing height. Generous windows fill the 14 foot high roof with ample daylight.

This sitting area is just opposite the large kitchen. It has a large plaster fireplace, exposed beam ceiling, and terra cotta tiles on the floor. The draperies are wool sheers in a neutral color similar to the walls. A bold area rug, zebra printed upholstered ottoman, and a tree of life sculpture complete the room.

Built on 7 acres of riverfront property this house reflects our clients’ desire for a residence with traditional proportions, quality materials and fine details. Collaborating with landscape architect Barbara Feeley, we positioned the house to maximize views of the Columbia River and to provide access to the existing pond and landscape terraces. Primary living spaces face to the south or east and have handcrafted windows that provide generous light and views. Exterior materials; rough-cast stucco, brick, copper, bluestone paving and wood shingles were selected for their longevity and compatibly with English residential style construction.
