A simple backdrop for the tenants to make their own with their furniture and styling. The room was refreshed with paint, a new pendant light, the fireplace was painted, leaving the grey to work with the wall colour and the floor was improved with sanding and oil.

The goal for this project was to create a space that felt “beachy” for the Lewis’ who moved from Utah to San Diego last year. These recent retirees needed a casual living room for everyday use and to handle the wear and tear of grandchildren. They also wanted a sophisticated environment to reflect this point in their lives and to have a welcoming atmosphere for guests.

The living room of this 1920s-era University City, Missouri home had gorgeous architectural details, most impressively, stunning diamond-patterned terrazzo floors. They don't build them like this anymore. We helped the homeowner with the furniture layout in the difficult (long and narrow) space and developed an overall design using her existing furnishings as a jumping-off point. We painted the walls and picture moulding a soft, velvety black to give the space seriously cozy vibes and play up the beautiful floors. Accent furniture pieces (like the green velvet chairs), French linen draperies, rug, lighting, artwork, velvet pillows, and fur throw up the sophistication quotient while creating a space thats still comfortable enough to curl up with a cup of tea and a good book.

This living room got a total make over. Beautiful new gray laminate flooring. A fresh coat of paint on the walls. Paint color is Sherwin William Agreeable Gray. The fireplace used to just sit flush against the wall without a mantel. We added this beautiful gray patterned tile. Made a wood mantel, and then added shiplap. We ran the shiplap vertically to carry your eye all the way up to the ceiling.

Living Spaces
Well-balanced living starts at home in clean, comfortable, harmonious rooms. Unity and variety are achieved in this breezy retreat by doubling our designs – from the tailored Donaver sofa and live-edge acacia bench, to a bookcase that creates distinctive, asymmetrical displays. For a lush eco touch, plants and green accent pillows enliven the environment.
Mercury Mosaics and Tile
This fireplace features 4x4 tile placed on its edge to look like diamonds with 6x6 tile on the hearth. It is glazed in our Night Sky glaze, a deep blue glaze with crystals in it that give show up as light blue bursts after they are fired.
