Joy Street Design
A gorgeous kitchen showcasing a brand new color palette of gray and bold blue! As this was the client’s childhood home, we wanted to preserve her memories while still refreshing the interior and bringing it up-to-date. We started with a new spatial layout and increased the size of wall openings to create the sense of an open plan without removing all the walls. By adding a more functional layout and pops of color throughout the space, we were able to achieve a youthful update to a cherished space without losing all the character and memories that the homeowner loved.
Designed by Joy Street Design serving Oakland, Berkeley, San Francisco, and the whole of the East Bay.

Amazing Spaces
The prep sink and cooking space are designed to be a social experience and are located close to, and in view of, the family room furniture arrangement. The clean-up area is located in a more private area of the space so that dirty dishes following a party could be stacked out of sight. The refrigerator is centrally located so it can efficiently service both work zones.
Slab wood veneer doors in a textured gloss finish are framed by pilasters forming a cohesive furniture concept throughout the design. White countertops receive waterfall sides in strategic locations and are complimented by white porcelain tile backsplash with a modern wavy texture. Blue pendants, blue counter stools and a blue accent wall satisfy the client’s need for a splash of their favorite color.
The wall between the kitchen and dining area was removed to achieve the open concept that the clients wanted. The existing small kitchen table was replaced by an eating area with stools at the island and a larger, family-friendly dining table. A window was relocated to accommodate a functional cabinet layout.

CCS ARCHITECTURE
This house was designed as a second home for a Bay Area couple as a summer retreat to spend the warm summer months away from the fog in San Francisco. Built on a steep slope and a narrow lot, this 4000 square foot home is spread over 3 floors, with the master, guest and kids bedroom on the ground floor, and living spaces on the upper floor to take advantage of the views. The main living level includes a large kitchen, dining, and living space, connected to two home offices by way of a bridge that extends across the double height entry. This bridge area acts as a gallery of light, allowing filtered light through the skylights above and down to the entry on the ground level. All living space takes advantage of grand views of Lake Washington and the city skyline beyond. Two large sliding glass doors open up completely, allowing the living and dining space to extend to the deck outside. On the first floor, in addition to the guest room, a “kids room” welcomes visiting nieces and nephews with bunk beds and their own bathroom. The basement level contains storage, mechanical and a 2 car garage.

INSPIRED KITCHEN DESIGN
When it comes to style, Danielle — who just so happens to be a designer — prefers a more modern look. “If I had to choose anything at IKEA, it would have been high gloss white and some orange. That’s what I would have done with a blank slate."
The house, however, has more traditional bones. Danielle needed to strike the perfect balance of modern and traditional. While the stainless lights lean more towards modern, the cabinets serve as a graceful nod to the traditional.
