The rear garden was re-designed by Justin Greer as part of the project and was largely implemented by the principal contractor.
It turned-out to be quite a major landscaping exercise, and included the creation of different levels and much-improved connections with the house via new steps and terraces.

Dig Your Garden Landscape Design
APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

A bird house is the focal point of these back yard gardens. The post height ensures plenty of room for tall perennials. The shed has attained a lovely patina including moss growth on the roof. Vintage watering cans on the side of the shed complete the garden theme.

A bluestone stepper path connects the front and rear spaces. Two large spheres are nested into the landscape bed as an homage to mid-century design. Intimate seating and a gas fire pit are visible in the background.
