The very first galley kitchens were the small kitchens that belonged inside ships. They are narrow and fit only the kitchen essentials to make use of all available space. The galley style kitchen layout consists of two parallel kitchen areas with space in between. One side is for the cooking area and includes the stove and oven. The other side has the wash and prep area that includes the sink and chopping board area. Cabinets are often placed above and below the prep and cook area to add extra storage.
