Long time clients who are "empty nesters" downsized from a larger house to this new condominium, designed to showcase their small yet impressive collection of modern art. The space plan, high ceilings, and careful consideration of materials lends their residence an quiet air of sophistication without pretension. Existing furnishings nearly 30 years old were slightly modified and reupholstered to work in the new residence, which proved both economical and comforting.

This project presented very unique challenges: the customer wanted to "open" the kitchen to the living room so that the room could be inclusive, while not losing the vital pantry space. The solution was to remove the former load bearing wall and pantry and build a custom island so the profile of the doors and drawers seamlessly matched with the current kitchen. Additionally, we had to locate the granite for the island to match the existing countertops. The results are, well, incredible!

New facelift for this condo in Brantford. Interior design ideas provided by Carolyn Wilbrink from Small Town Style and CW Design & Co. Cloud White bevel shaker doors with Fantasy Brown Granite countertops. We incorporated a wood hood to this kitchen along with additional accessories such as a 2-bin garbage pull out and super-susan in the corner base cabinet for maximum access for this client. The microwave was integrated into the peninsula with a stainless steel trim kit. We added corbels on either end of the peninsula to add a touch of elegance.

Maximizing the functionality of this space, and coordinating the new kitchen with the beautiful remodel completed previously by the client were the two most important aspects of this project. The existing spaces are elegantly decorated with an open plan, dark hardwood floors, and natural stone accents. The new, lighter, more open kitchen flows beautifully into the client’s existing dining room space. Satin nickel hardware blends with the stainless steel appliances and matches the satin nickel details throughout the home. The fully integrated refrigerator next to the narrow pull-out pantry cabinet, take up less visual weight than a traditional stainless steel appliance and the two combine to provide fantastic storage. The glass cabinet doors and decorative lighting beautifully highlight the client’s glassware and dishes. Finished with white subway tile, Dreamy Marfil quartz countertops, and a warm natural wood blind; the space warm, inviting, elegant, and extremely functional. copyright 2013 marilyn peryer photography
