Calling this 1890 Victorian home a restoration would be an understatement. The homeowners had all four stories stripped down to the frame and rebuilt with an attached garage and an all-new roof deck. This created a design challenge to tie the garage into the existing structure without sacrificing the traditional Victorian aesthetic. To achieve the final product, a conservatory-style connection was built between the garage and house to both join them together and link each level with a stair tower. Marvin windows played a key role in complementing the curved copper roof and preserving the character and period of the house. The glass left a pleasant transition between the different levels throughout the home.

Give it warmth - Adding a colourful runner to a traditional-style neutral space is a simple yet effective way of transforming the area. Without this rug the hall would look rather bare, but the bold red pattern is confident without being overpowering, and enhances the classic features such as the bannister handrail. - nafisa_baluwala

This Gambrel style residence has been completely upgraded to satisfy todays’ standards while restoring and reinforcing the original 1885 design. It began as a Summer Cottage accessible by train from Boston, and is now a year round residence. The essence of the structure was maintained, while enhancing every detail. The breadth of craftsmanship is evident throughout the home resulting in a comfortable and embellished aesthetic.
