After living in their 1,300 square foot condo for about twenty years it was a time for something new. Rather than moving into a cookie-cutter development, these clients chose to embrace their love of colour and location and opted for a complete renovation instead. An expanded “welcome home” entry and more roomy closet space were starting points to rework the plan for modern living. The kitchen now opens onto the living and dining room and hits of saturated colour bring every room to life. Oak floors, hickory and lacquered millwork provide a warm backdrop for new and refurbished mid-century modern classics. Solid copper pulls from Sweden, owl wallpaper from England and a custom wool and silk rug from Nepal make the client’s own Venetian chandelier feel internationally at home. Photo: Lucas Finlay

The clients owned a small 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom Victorian-style 1910 rowhouse. Their goal was to maximize the functionality of their small single bathroom, and achieve a look they described as a “Victorian Jewel Box.” Jack & Jill entrances, double sinks & linen towers, and a 2-person tub/shower achieved the desired versatility and functionality. Varying tones of white create an expansive look without sacrificing visual interest, and Feng Shui concepts guided the placement of fixtures so that the space feels open and serene. The rustic metal roof and simplified interior elements result in a fresh take on a traditional farm outbuilding.

Consistent, 12x12 tiles on the shower walls/floor/ceiling are a crisp, clean look. A linear drain allows water to escape without compromising the shower's appearance with a central drain; two recessed shelves and a bench provide storage and hide bottles from being seen outside.
