Aura Design Build

We hired Aura upon a very high recommendation from a colleague who had used them a few years back for a kitchen remodel, then a couple of years later for a bathroom remodel. My colleague is extremely A-type and picky :) so I knew they'd do a good job. We contacted Jeremy the day (my birthday) that we found out we were pregnant for a "back house" addition in our back yard for guests. Our little 2-1 small house would be out of room for visiting grandparents! Jeremy met us an hour later on our property to start the design and bid process. We were floored at the energy and personal attention and his fantastic design ideas. We came up with an amazing plan for our little 350 sq ft 2 story tiny house in the back yard. It's fully functional, gorgeous and exactly what we needed. We love it. At the beginning of the project I said to Jeremy that the rule of thumb with construction is the rule of 3: quality, budget, time. Pick two. You can't get all three. I kept saying, you can be a little late, but we won't sacrifice quality and we have no room in the budget (not even the typical 10% you should factor in just in case... baby on the way, etc.) The overall quality and design is great. They delivered on budget (we pitched in a bit extra by buying the cabinets at IKEA and assembling them and a few fixtures and things on Amazon). The structure was completed a *year* after we started. The project was estimated at a 6-8 week job :) In the end, their communication was great, they use a project management app that's awesome for collaboration. The details on the finishing - in particular the painting... were a little challenging as with most projects. I still look at the mismatched finish of the flat and gloss paint downstairs where the touch ups were done with the ceiling paint on the walls. Most people probably wouldn't notice. The overall structure I'm proud of and thankful for the highly functional space and intelligent design. That's what counts to me in the end. I can repaint whenever my now toddler starts sleeping more! We're very lucky that the project was not in our home, but in our yard. The giant puppy was a little annoyed he couldn't have his yard, but he did love playing foreman watching them :) I will echo others in the fact that the City of Austin was a large part of the scheduling chaos here, but the delays were excessive. I believe they had several jobs lined up and all of us got delayed with permit processing so we all ended up at the same time. Unfortunate but probably common these days. With a little more experience and planning and a better "b" team of subcontractors these guys will be the go-to. We will hire them for the next job - again once the toddler is sleeping and we're ready to tackle our single bathroom in the main house. 1960's original is vintage and cool, right? We recommend Aura! (but not the City permit department.. ;))

We had Aura Design Build in October 2014 do a complete remodel our kitchen and create a custom built media center. Aura came highly recommended by a neighbor, however our experience with them was not as easy and smooth. The remodel was projected to take 6-8 weeks and ended up taking 14 weeks!! The delays were mainly due to their sub contractors incompetent workmanship, attention to detail, and poor scheduling. The unqualified subs that Aura used had to repaint our cabinets three times, patch flooring twice, rebuild a pocket door twice, retouch wall paint twice after using the wrong type of paint, and rewire electrical work that was done incorrectly the first time. Each mishap on the subs part added days which equaled weeks of time lost and inconvenience for us, resulting in an unprofessional remodel experience for us. With all that went wrong on Aura’s part of the remodel, they did finish the job and made sure to fix the mistakes their subcontractors made. Aura did stay within our agreed upon budget and were responsive when we contacted them. We were very pleased with the media center they built, which was not a simple job. All in all, we have a remodeled kitchen are happy with. Our hope when we hired Aura for the job was we would have a professional company run the show, but it ended up we were fighting with them for the job to be done right.

Aura Design Build is a great company to work with. They did a remodeling on on my bathroom and they were fast, efficient, and teh results were nothing short of amazing

Aura Design Build came highly recommended. We had seen their work and were impressed with it, as were we with the glowing recommendation. We were delighted with the project from start to finish. Jeremy and Lucien were always professional, courteous, and thoughtful. They anticipated thing we hadn't. As glitches came up (it's an old house) they worked through them and came up with wonderful solutions. We were gone overseas for part of the work (thankfully) and had no qualms about leaving our house in their hands. The job was to redo the kitchen, relocate the pantry, move the washer/dryer into the hall, add six new windows in two rooms, replace the front door, screen the front porch, remove two 'fins' that protruded into the rooms, install new hardwood floors in 1/2 the house... my, what didn't they do. We were thrilled with the end result and the value. Our house guests gush about how good it looks. Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. We would have no hesitation to use them again or to recommend them.

Lucian and Jermie built our studioshed. This was the first one in Austin and the Boulder based company had some issues on the construction that Aura handled well and we have a beautiful and well built structure in our backyard. We are continuing to engage their design and construction services for other projects in our home and highly recommend them.

I have worked with Jeremy and Lucien for years and they are the best! Easy to deal with, great work and communication and always a fair price. He and his team are experts in the field. I highly and frequently recommend him.

I hired Aura Design to install all utilities for a dishwasher and disposal. I have an original 50yr old kitchen that had to have cabinets cut and re-purposed and the job was completed as expected. No extra, surprise or hidden costs and completed on the estimated time. All the people that performed work were very polite and clean and at the end I was very happy with the results. I definitely would recommend hiring the for any remodel project.

Aura Design Build did exception work on the bathroom and lighting remodel project at my downtown Austin house. The bid was extremely detailed, and they delivered all work smoothly on the promised 6-week schedule. The contractor, Jeremy, focused on delivering my requests while also recommending ways to reduce costs and improve design. The tile team led by Juan were truly artists, and the painter, Miguel, did excellent work. I would fully recommend hiring Aura Design.
