We at W Studio have had the pleasure of working with Barbara for many years. The quality of her work and the way she incorporates our carpets into beautiful decor is exceptional. Her level of professionalism is unprecedented, and we look forward to working with Barbara for a long time to come.

I moved to Toronto and bought a new home. I decided to start renovating, but I didn't know where to start. Then I found Barbara of NIKKA DESIGN. We had our first meeting and discussed my concerns and plans. She prepared a colour scheme for me and gave me many ideas regarding furniture, lighting, etc... Now, the work has all been completed and I am amazed at the transformation. I found Barbara to be professional, knowledgeable, helpful and very friendly. Thanks, Barbara.

It was my pleasure to work with Nikka Design during the summer and autumn of 2015 to redecorate my living/dining area. Barbara introduced me to some excellent stores and suppliers and was patient with my dithering, yet good at bringing my focus back to the task at hand. It's a good thing she has an excellent sense of humour. Barbara worked hard to clarify what effect I wanted to achieve, and how I would use the space, without imposing her own personal tastes on the project. Then she printed out a budget for individual items of furniture and accessories showing a range of costs from low to high. Her professional fees are extra, and will vary depending on what you ask her to do for you. For example, you can save money by going to look at suggested items on your own, and then giving her your reactions at your next meeting. It is more fun when you both go though.

I have worked for Nikka Design on several projects and I can say her attention to detail is remarkable. She knows how to bring the clients wants and dreams into reality. Her designs are very easy to follow and very detailed and as a Custom home builder I believe she is a vital part of the overall project to ensure my clients Interiors are just right. I would highly recommend her if you plan any type of interior renovation or design!

We used Barbara early on in our renovation project for ideas on optimum bathroom layout, kitchen style/design, and walk in closet plans. Barbara offered ideas that we had not even entertained, most notably, a plan to open up our walk in closet so that it extends into the bedroom with a feature island in the middle. Super classy! It made our bedroom appear much larger than had we used barn yard style doors as planned. She also had good tips about improving the bathroom layout and painting our window frames black to tie in our industrial/contemporary kitchen style. Don’t just consider a designer for your finishes – in our experience, having Barbara’s help before we got started was key to an awesome space!

Barbara did an in-home consultation for me on an upcoming kitchen design. From the moment she walked in, she was friendly, professional and inspired by the space. She seemed to understand what our personal style was and how we could bring it to life. I would highly recommend her services.

We had never used a designer but needed help. We hired NIkka Design for an initial consultation on how best to tackle moving my office to the basement and getting rid of 12 year old carpet on the main floor. Barbara was instrumental in helping us see how we could more efficiently use the space in our home for how we live as a family. She asked questions about things I never thought of and helped us really see the potential. She also helped us see that there were things we actually didn't need to do, and that other items would benefit us more. We ended up hiring her to manage the reno. From my boards on Houzz and Pinterest with conversations she was able to pull together our whole main floor (new flooring, all new family room furniture, paint colours, etc) and plan our entire basement. My husband (NOT a shopper) was amazed that Barbara only needed one day to show us all the items she sourced (custom curved sectional, chairs, cocktail table, tv unit, rug, fabrics) and that we both loved everything. On budget, and totally our taste. She did all the legwork and planned everything to the last detail. Our home is now completely pulled together, and feels like adults actually live here! She was professional, extremely knowledgeable and always available to answer emails and provide answers to things I had no clue about (Direction of tile? Will this light work in the stairwell?). We now have a beautifully finished basement with guest room, washroom, storage, 2 offices and tv area. And our main floor has opened up with the removal of 4 columns and a gas fireplace, new stairs, huge sliding door in kitchen and new exterior doors. It's totally cohesive in tone and feel which I could never have done on my own. And most importantly? It all fits our family like a glove. I highly recommend Barbara Nyke and Nikka Design for any scale project you may have. You will not be disappointed.

Over the past 3 years, Nikka Design has helped us to create a home in which we are both comfortable and awed every day. Barbara has guided us in defining our style and finding the home decor to make it come alive. Always professional and responsive, we will continue working with Barbara until she has made every room in our house stunning!

When we first thought about redecorating our house, we felt very overwhelmed with where to start the process. Once Barbara came into the picture, all that changed! She used her insight, experience and creativity to develop a decor plan that worked for our taste and budget. More importantly the overwhelming feeling was replaced with excitement. We couldn't wait to get started! Some people say redecorating/renovating can be a really stressful process but honestly we can't say we really felt that as Barbara was always on top of things and got the work done as needed. She smoothed out any of the bumps! What stood out to us the most throughout this experience was her attention to detail, flexibility and commitment to excellence. My husband and I needed to renovate our very small laundry room to make it more functional and to add a dryer vent. We hired Barbara as my sister had used her to re-decorate her condo. Overall a great experience! It was nice not to have to worry about managing the various contractors that we needed in order to finish the room. Nikka Design helped to move the existing dryer vent (hole in our wall), take out the concrete floor, re-tile, paint, install a new stack-able washer & dryer (that we purchased separately), build floor to ceiling shelving, install a light fixture and provide hanging options for clothes to dry. Our only caution would be to watch spending as costs seem to add up quickly; the job came out a bit more expensive than we had originally planned. In the end, we were very happy with the final results from Nikka Design. The redesign greatly improved the use of the space and modernized our laundry room!

As a manufacturer and supplier of fine hand knotted area rugs we work with design professionals on a daily basis. It's a pleasure working with Barbara Nyke of Nikka Design as she is friendly, courteous and energized. Barbara is detail oriented making admirable choices for her clients, always knowing the size of area rug required for each space and she works within her clients budgets.

With the purchase of a re-sale condo, I was happy with the overall design concept from Barbara of Nikka Design. She was a great help with paint colour selection, space planning and furniture purchases. She was attentive to my needs for the space and provided necessary guidance to create a comfortable environment that I am proud to call my home.
