Ben Robbins worked with us to build our home. This was our first experience building so we didn't know what to expect. Ben did a wonderful job adapting the plans to meet our needs. Every single inch of the home is functional which was very important to us. He was very patient and helped turn our dream home into reality.

Ben has been great to work with at each stage of the project. We brought a poorly drawn first floor plan to our initial meeting. Ben took our basic idea and made it come to life. His combination of creativity, design skill, historical knowledge of architecture and practical focus made it a pleasure to work with him. One of our favorite aspects of the design phase was sitting with Ben in his office and making real time changes to the plan on his design software. Seeing our changes captured immediately and then reflected in floor plans and revised elevations was very exciting. Additionally, Ben's dedication to service extends beyond design. He has been with us each step of the way as our project moves forward. Ben's passion for architectural design and building will be evident to anyone who is fortunate enough to work with him.

I work for a financial institution who has financed several residential properties designed by Mr. Robbins. Each deal has been well designed and has produced a very high-end finished product. I hvae experienced Mr. Robbins to be a credible and reliable individual.

BVC Designs is proud to have worked on 2 of Ben's custom projects. His Designs facilitated us to put his vision into reality. We performed custom tile and custom bamboo flooring on a large home he designed. Working with Ben's ideas and professionalism was great. We truly enjoyed working for such a great architectural company. His ideas are fresh and he is truly a innovative architect!!!

Ben was great at converting my ideas into a great design and then adding his vision and experience to the process to perfect the design which led to a flawless project. What seemed like an impossible remodel/addition idea before Ben got involved turned into a completed project in an impressively reasonable period of time. He met every challenge with creative enthusiasm making things fun and efficient. I won't use anybody else.

Gordon, and my stunning wife, Diane
Average rating: 5 out of 5 stars
"Y'know -- 'Gordon' is a great name!" And I should know, because it happens to be mine. I mentioned this to our young architect, Ben Robbins, of Robbins Architecture, because he and his charming wife Amy, were expecting their second child, a boy. (The fact of the pregnancy may sound irrelevant to a review of an architect, but it isn't. This will become clear.)
My brilliant and beautiful wife, Diane, and I purchased twenty-four acres of farmland and timber as our retirement property. We interviewed four architects, ranging from relatively young and inexperienced to quite senior that had been doing houses ever since indoor plumbing came into vogue (I think).
We selected the youngest, and in the earliest part of his career of the four, Ben Robbins. The first thing that impressed us was that he was one of only two that wanted -- in fact, nearly insisted upon -- meeting us at the site. It was fascinating watching him evaluate our proposed house plot, seeing him analyze it with his architect's, and artist's, eye; and he wasn't afraid to....well, not disagree with us, but offer alternatives, and (more to the point) give good, solid, tangible reasons for his suggestions. For example, he suggested moving the location slightly, and rotating to axis of the house to take maximum advantage of the sight-lines. He also displayed a great knowledge of and appreciation for the trees at the site, explaining how they would appear throughout the year.
We repaired to a local eatery, and discussed our goals, and tastes. I was impressed again when Ben, who as architects should be, is quite conversant about styles, but was also able to isolate the elements of the Craftsman School that make it our preference. He even withstood politely my unbearably insufferable sneers about Frank Lloyd Wright, and what that worthy had done to turn the Prairie School into Holiday Inn, as done by Wal-Mart. Yes, stereotyping is grossly unfair, but -- what a timesaver! And such fun!
After long discussion, we selected Ben over the others. We felt immediately comfortable with him, and he listened to what was most important to us. He designed the house and separate shop for us very quickly, and brought over the preliminaries to show us and get our input. Watching Ben and my brilliant and beautiful wife, Diane, discuss this cornice and that ceiling vault was great entertainment for me, as my contributions are limited to the mechanical, structural, electrical, and plumbing details. For, as Diane will agree, I have the taste of a troglodyte and the sense of style of a Philistine. I WAS able to convince them to put two of my ideas in, though; a urinal in the Master Bath (and think about how practical this is before you roll your eyes and snort), and a secret door to my office, hidden in a bookcase, because you're never too old for a happy childhood.
Ben happily embraced the secret door, and he and I ran quotes from Mel Brook's 'Young Frankenstein' ("Put the candle...BACK!") to each other, until Diane became irritated.
After the design phase was over, we put the construction up for competitive bidding, and the construction company that Ben is associated with, Architectural Builders LLC, was the winning bidder.
During the construction phase, we found out just how valuable Ben is. He's constantly at the site, even sometimes at two in the morning. Like me, he's an insomniac, and has several projects going at once. But from how he treats ours, you couldn't tell that he has anything going on but our project. It was then that we discovered that Ben and Amy were expecting their second child, another boy to join Oliver, their three-year-old. Oliver is a constant 'superintendent' at the site, because Ben takes him everywhere, often riding on Ben's shoulders, which are a long way from the ground. Being of average height myself, I'd guess Ben is around, say....five feet, seventeen inches tall. The accompanying pictures (please look in our photos labeled 'Ben Robbins, Master Architect') shows Ben and Oliver on an inspection tour of our home site.
I mentioned to Ben that Diane and I are childless, and our assorted seven siblings have produced twelve assorted nephews and 'grand' nephews, not ONE of those twenty-four first and middle names was filled by 'Gordon'. I suggested to him that here was an opportunity to correct this gross miscarriage of justice -- or confirmation of good taste, if you ask my mouthy and irreverent wife.
Diane and I have never, not ONCE, regretted selecting Ben Robbins. In fact, we've passed along his name several times, and I've nearly given myself an elbow sprain, patting myself on the back at my own cleverness. When I'm doing this, Diane just regards me with a kindly if satiric eyebrow lift. One quality that Diane especially enjoys is that Ben enjoys shopping for fixtures and other house accoutrements nearly as much as she does, an activity that I would rather burn off my nipples with a blowtorch than participate in. I'm so grateful to Ben for this alone, I might polish his shoes with my hair.
Now, the reason why I mentioned Ben and Amy's pregnancy at all is this: there was a fire at our building site, and as fortune would have it, Ben's two partners were out of town. So with Amy eight-and-seven-eighths months along, Ben took over running the reconstruction work. One of Ben's immense gifts is his patience and his ability to talk and listen to nearly anyone. For a big man, he has a gentleness (a quality I greatly admire in men, because I have so little of it myself), and an ability to reason with the most recalcitrant. He can convince desultory contractors to exert themselves, bored government officials to produce documentation, harried utility supervisors that he ISN'T one of their many problems, and his picky, pushy clients that he's got things under control. Right up to about an hour before Amy and Ben welcomed their new son into the world.
We received the telephone call about the delivery, and I said, "Ben, that's wonderful! What", I asked hopefully, turning to look at Diane, "is your new son's name?"
Remy Robbins.
I'll forgive Ben -- eventually -- but, y'know, 'Gordon' is still a great name. And I'll still hire Ben ahead of any other architect for any work we ever have done.

We scoured the internet for weeks and called countless architects both in Kentucky and out of state. Our goal was to find an architect who was enthusiastic about our project and listened to our wants and needs. Ben was eager to work, efficient with his time (and ours) and above all else, he was patient and understanding as we peppered him with questions and made countless revisions. He brought our dream to reality and we are now able to watch our home being built under his watchful eye. Ben has truly been a partner in the process rather than a "contract." Without reservation, I would recommend Ben for any architectural needs you may have.

I hired Robbins Architecture to provide architecture services and construction consultation for my family's whole house renovation project. My wife and I couldn't have been happier with the experience. Ben walked us through the process and project, exhibiting an impressive amount of knowledge and creativity along the way. We could always rely on Ben to come up with clever solutions to design and construction challenges. Our project finished on schedule and within our original budget. Thanks to Robbins Architecture our project was a success!

One year ago, my wife and I purchased five acres to build our new home. We wanted an architect with energy, imagination and fresh new ideas. After our first consultation with Ben, we knew he was the one. He presented plans with style and pizazz. The house was custom designed to fit the sight, because Ben traveled there with us on our first day together.
Ben was with us throughout the construction process to fine tune designs and make recommendations. We feel Ben went above and beyond his call of duty.
Ben takes a lot of pride in his work and is highly committed to his clients. Doing business with Ben is like dealing with a close friend.
We would highly recommend Ben to anyone!
