The advantage for our clients of the design/build process, is not only financial, but practical. It provides the greatest opportunity for onsite flexibility for both our clients and our landscape architects alike. As our collective visions grow and new site opportunities are realized, onsite changes are easy to make.
The design/build process involves enough time and resources being dedicated to developing conceptual plans (such as knowing how the client's landscape will look and feel, and what it's cost might be) but stopping short of spending huge amounts of time and money on detailed construction documents. A significant amount of money can be saved in the initial design process when working this way.
This process involves a mutual trust with our clients that we will deliver a phenomenal landscape. Some of our clients prefer to know as many details as possible before construction begins. When this happens, we strongly encourage them to either spend much more time in design with our landscape architects during design/build (before construction begins), or from the very beginning they can engage in a more costly but also more traditional landscape architectural design process.
While the design/build is process is great opportunity for many, it is certainly not for everybody. It takes clients putting their full trust with us, and it takes our team members, including employees and sub-contractors, being able to be team players, be open minded, communicate effectively, be extremely patient, creative and have the ability to learn and adapt their skillset as needed. We find our best relationships are long term ones.
