John and his entire team are a joy to work with. They are knowledgable and helpful in navigating the many and sometimes difficult decisions involved in a major remodel job. Many times John gently steered us away from frivolous choices and kept us focused on work that would produce real value. We are very happy with the results of our remodel. Once again John Fuchs has come to our rescue. Previously it was a huge Eucalyptus tree crashing on our home. This time it was a flood from our dishwasher. Our kitchen cabinets and flooring had to be replaced....He worked with our previous cabinet builder as well as bringing in his subcontractors to restore our home not only to original status but adding improvements/upgrades along the way. We highly recommend John to anyone that needs restoration as well as remodeling of their home. John does outstanding work. I recently purchased my dream home in Aptos overlooking the ocean. The house needed a complete remodel as it had not been touched since the 1980’s. This was a terrifying undertaking given I know nothing about the building industry and I am a single woman. I was introduced to John and very quickly I felt confident that his team would help me through this scary project. His words hold true “ I want to be your neighbor and friend at the end of this”. I did a whole house remodel and extensive deck repair. John and team’s help to negotiate the Santa Cruz permit process and stayed on top of all the requests. His extensive knowledge of this area and strong network of subs really helped with the decisions making, John always had suggestions and solutions for some difficult situations we faced, he went up and beyond. One of the biggest things I appreciated was his direct and honest manner. From the beginning he came up with an estimate, and spent a lot of time going over it, and what issues could change it. When situations arose he quickly went over the issue and gave all the solutions. This also true for the timeframe. We made many changes to the original scope, and it was clearly communicated what would happen to the cost and timeframe so I could make decisions and plans. Each week we would meet and go over what was completed and what was happening that week, also a clear accounting of what was spent and if the estimates changed, again no surprises. What is a very stressful time John and team were always available and made it fun. My home is beautiful and I cant thank John and team enough.

We selected John Fuchs Properties to remodel/renovate our master bathroom and are very pleased with the completed project. John and his project coordinator (first Kori Williams and then Carrey Ward) were great to work with. They listened attentively to our projects scope, objective and thoughts, and asked appropriate questions. They also offered suggestions without trying to force our decisions one way or the other. John’s employees and the sub-contractors he selected were a pleasure to work with. Overall, they did a very good to excellent job of protecting our home and cleaning up after their work. The tile work by Tom Belardi for the shower and floor is beautiful. John and/Carrey ensured a couple minor items were addressed in a timely manner. Although the project took a little longer than anticipated, this was attributed to a sub-contractor we selected for the cabinetry and was beyond John’s control. Our project finished under our budget and John’s estimate!! We have received many positive comments, and “oohs and aahs” about our new bathroom. We will definitely contact John for our next project.

We were a bit nervous after we closed on our beachfront 3 level townhome in La Selva. The location is stunning yet tricky and the house needed a bunch of work, including structural changes including reframing the staircase, opening up the main level wall to the ocean. We initially started working with another design build firm who provided a comprehensive yet expensive plan. While receiving bids from different companies, John Fuchs and company stood out in terms of their thoroughness, clarity in communication and exhibited an understanding what we were really hoping to have this property look like. Once underway, the project was a smooth sailing journey. Albeit involved, including multiple permit revisions with the city and coastal commission, John just took them in his stride and worked through them systematically. He just bears that "not a problem" attitude and carries on his work and the results speak for themselves. John also suggested a few additions along the way and helped with planning and permitting those and they turned out fantastic. Along the way John was a supportive guide, helping us make decisions on critical questions that allowed us to not compromise on the desired outcome and yet did not blow up our budget substantially. The workmanship and quality of this company's work is top-tier. Pricing is competetive and fit and finish is remarkable. The ease with which changes to plans were accommodated is commendable and the final product emerged to be simply stunning. The accounting and communication through the project was regular, transparent and precise. John and team were also very patient as we slowly meandered our way picking finishes and appliances including some crazy color requests and door finishes. Overall it was a fun, creative and stress free experience to work with him and his team. If you are looking to do a project in the Santa Cruz area, John Fuchs Construction is our unequivocal recommendation as your building contractor, you won't regret it!

We hired John Fuchs Construction to remodel our family beach house in Seascape. It started primarily with a bathroom remodel, but it grew incrementally to replacing all of the windows and painting all of the interior and exterior of the home. There were many other minor projects scattered in with these. Despite the extended nature of these projects, and despite their busy schedule, John and his crew always took excellent care of us. They handled all of the HOA approvals and permitting, and they did excellent work at a very competitive price. They were a pleasure to work with, and I recommend them highly for anyone considering any type of construction work on their home. We were lucky to find this company and We look forward to the next opportunity to work with this professional and local real estate and construction firm.

My wife and I had been thinking about remodeling our Soquel home for a number of years. We had the budget and a rough idea of what we wanted to do but the idea of packing up and clearing out 20 plus years of our stuff always made us hesitate to start the process. In addition we both knew that having the right Contractor was very important for all the obvious reasons. I met John Fuchs about 3 years ago at a local gym in Aptos. From the beginning it was easy to like John. He is a genuinely a nice guy, easy-going, smart and funny. With that said, you could tell he took his business seriously and it felt like he was someone you could trust. We reviewed his website and checked his references. We liked every thing we discovered. From the beautiful remodel work he had done over the years to the consistent positive client reviews, it seemed like he could be our guy. The final step for us was to get 3 competitive bids for our remodel and see how the John Fuchs Company (JFC) stacked up. JFC’s bid was right in the middle and competitive. We hired JFC in May of 2018 with the actual remodel work starting the last week of June. John estimated completion in early November. After hearing all the horror stories of remodels going well past the estimated completion date, I can tell you that JFC completed our project right on time and very close to the original cost estimate. But the real delight was working with John and his team. John is a great communicator as is Kori Williams, John’s very capable and experienced. This is a trait that is a big deal during 4.5 months of intense activity. John & Kori provided guidance, collaboration and creative insights that made all the difference in our project being a very positive experience from beginning to end. JFC completely transformed our home. We love everything about our new renovation. I highly recommend JFC to anyone looking for a great building contractor. You will not be disappointed and John & Kori will make the project fun and enjoyable.

I recently finished my third remodel project with John Fuchs Construction. I did a complete remodel of my kitchen as well as some specific changes in two bathrooms which helped to update and refine their appearance. As always I found their team to be a pleasure to work with. As to the basics, they are great communicators, treat your house and furniture with respect and keep things as cleaned up as possible every day when they leave your home. I know what I like but I’m not always sure how to fit it in to a revised version of my home. They provided design ideas as well as worked with me to tease out what I really want. An example of this was using Heather Glass in my kitchen which turned out to be beautiful. Many times they would rework or improve something that looked fine to me but wasn’t up to their high quality standards. They are a great partner to help you realize your dreams!

I waited for him to be available, then had him full-time on my job, which was done wuickly and well. I will hire him again next time I need work done!

John and his staff are a pleasure to do business with! We had approached other contractors to replace the windows in our house, but they were all flummoxed over how to approach the arched windows. John was confident that he and his crew could handle the challenge. We continue to receive compliments on the wonderful window trim that they fabricated. They showed up when they said they would and finished on time and under budget. Great communication, very knowledgeable and skillful. On Jan 5th 2017 a huge Euchalyptus tree fell on our house. It was devastating! Our house was red tagged by the county inspector. First calls were to our insurance agent and John Fuchs. We don't know what we would of done without his guidance,skill, organization, in depth knowledge of reconstructing homes & his outstanding people skills. He coordinated so many subcontractors with ease. His carpenters did an excellent job rebuilding the damaged areas of our home. He made it easy to deal with our insurance company. We were very pleased with how smooth this went and felt we received a more than fair settlement for the restoration of our home. Thank you John Fuchs! We cannot say enough great words about John. We highly recommend John Fuchs Construction Co. We always felt that we were in good hands. He also has an excellent staff. August 11, 2017 My husband and I recently purchased a 2 bedroom, 2 bath home in Santa Cruz. The house dates back to the 1930’s and most of it was original. We loved the home because it was charming, simple, and had a comfortable “homey” feel to it. We wanted to preserve its charm, but it needed improvements with updated features and changes to enhance its livability. Since we do not live in the Santa Cruz area, I deferred to a good friend of mine living in Santa Cruz who just completed a kitchen/dining room remodel. The results of her project were nothing short of amazing; a dramatic improvement to say the least. She suggested the contractor she used, John Fuchs, with a glowing recommendation. We contacted John Fuchs and he put us on his schedule. We were thrilled! We instantly knew we had found the right person to help us. He came to the house with Maureen, his assistant, and all of us went over everything we wanted to do. John was upfront with projected costs and we worked from there; narrowing down what we could live without, and figuring out how to do the things we were adamant on improving or changing. John was amazing. He was open to our suggestions and always kept our budget in mind. When we came up with ideas that turned out to be too expensive, John came up with creative alternatives/suggestions which helped keep us in our budget and yet successfully accomplish our goal. John approaches every change, suggestion, and idea with a smile and a can-do attitude. He is truly a pleasure to work with. John’s support team is outstanding. His office staff is remarkable. Nancy, Kori, and Lovesh are responsive, knowledgeable, friendly, and simply the best. They return calls, answer questions, offer suggestions, and couldn’t have been more helpful. Nancy, in particular, was my angel throughout this remodel. I was almost sorry for the project to end, as I miss talking to her every week! John manages an amazing team. His subcontractors and employees, are happy, helpful, and considerate. The worksite was immaculate at the end of the day. The carpenters are hardworking, professional and gifted. This is a testament to John, as his team is an extension of his professionalism. Although we knew John had multiple jobs he was working on at the time he worked on our house, John and his team made us feel like we were the only, if not the most important, clients he had. In summation, we ended up with a beautiful remodel. We have a beautiful front porch, new carport, a new ½ bath, new kitchen, bigger bedroom, new fireplace and heaters, new front door and windows, freshly painted interior and exterior, and a new outlook for this adorable 1930’s house, which is now our home. We were Looking to build a 500 square foot "Additional Dwelling Unit" in our back yard. A couple of the most important issues were Budget and speed of the build, We had to get the unit rented before the end of the summer, due to our budget restrictions we knew we had to do some of the work ourselves to keep costs down, this meant we had to find a contractor that would be willing to work with us on this, Enter John Fuch's Construction, John and his team were fantastic and very knowledgeable, they said they could do as little or as much as we needed, their work and their Subs work was wonderful, our studio was built at a great pace and under budget, John and his team were very supportive and always made them self's available to discuss our project, John's billing was simple to understand with no hidden costs, John Fuchs Construction is a company We would recommend.

I have been working with John, Maureen, Nancy, and subs for a couple of years now, supplying fenestration products (windows / doors). We collaborate on ideas and solutions to deliver the clients wish list, making their dream project into reality. They are very diligent regarding accurate specification review and architectural details. This makes the project more streamlined, getting it right on the front end. My husband and I recently completed an entire interior and exterior remodel to our 1966 one story ranch home. John Fuchs and team came highly recommended by local friends and neighbors. The experience building our beach house was, in a word, phenomenal. How many people can actually say this about a to-the-studs remodel? We were truly fortunate to have the Fuchs team by our side throughout. Was it a ton of work? Yes. Were there complications? Yes. Did the Fuchs team do everything imaginable -- and more -- to save us tons of work and address complications quickly? Unequivocally. We first had a great experience with the team for a condo remodel. So we tapped the team again for a massive home remodel that added a complete second-story to accommodate a reverse-living floorplan. We even turned to the Fuchs team to help us find the house and identify an architect. Through it all we truly felt taken care of -- like family. So in short, if you have a chance to work with the team at John Fuchs Construction -- do it. We cannot say enough good things.

We hired John Fuchs Construction when our home was damaged extensively due to our 2nd story washing machine hose breaking while we were out of town. The majority of the 3200 square foot house was taken down to the studs and we had to move out for 8 months. To say we were in shock, is an understatement. This was definitely an unplanned remodel. John and his team were fabulous every step of the way. They were patient, kind and offered us great suggestions on how to improve our home. We always knew where we stood as far as the budget was concerned. He has great subcontractors and everyone, including the office staff, did a quality job. I have to admit I am very picky and John and his team were the perfect fit for our expectations. In the end, we ended up with a better built, much improved, beautiful home. We did a complete kitchen remodel as well as several other upgrades in the home. The design guidance, and the expertise were outstanding.
