Doylestown Builders

I'm happy to share my experience with Doylestown Builders, who put together my IKEA kitchen in the spring of 2021. They did a solid job, both in terms of speed and quality of work. Right from the start, Doylestown Builders was on the ball. They were on time for our first meeting, were polite, and knew a lot about IKEA's product line and how to install everything. This really helped when we were planning out the project, as they were able to give good advice. What stood out about Doylestown Builders was how fast they got the job done. I was a bit surprised at first by how quickly they said they could finish, but they followed through without skipping any steps. They knew their stuff when it came to IKEA kitchens and didn't miss any details. I was also impressed by how they stuck to the original budget. They were upfront about costs, and there were no hidden or surprise charges. It's a big plus when you don't have to worry about going over budget. The end result was a well-put-together IKEA kitchen that I'm really happy with. It works great, looks good, and you can tell they knew what they were doing. All in all, I'd recommend Doylestown Builders. If you're thinking about installing an IKEA kitchen, give them a call. They're quick, they do good work, and they don't overcharge. They gave me a kitchen I can be proud of, and I'd hire them again for future projects. Every member of his team were personable and fun to work with!

Jon and his team at Doylestown Builders did a great job for us on a 2 story addition with rooms upstairs. They used the architect plans and made them even better. All the subs they used were professional and courteous. I liked the transparent billing too. We used a "time and materials" model and I think that worked well for both parties. You hear some bad stories about working with contractors. I was nervous, but it all worked out great. I would definitely recommend Doylestown Builders for small or large projects.

I hired Doylestown Builders to finish my basement and am very happy with the outcome. I had a unique vision for the space that included a “fun zone” space for my kids with a climbing wall and monkey bars. Jon and his team happily took on the assignment and I enjoyed working with them to make the vision a reality.

My husband and I recently had some work done on our house. We had our kitchen remodeled, garage painted and some electrical work, load bearing walls knocked down, some outside repairing, and our mudroom/laundry leveled and retile. Everything turned out amazing! Our kitchen went from 1960s, to modern farmhouse and we love it. I wish I could post pictures! Jon and his crew were on time, clean, very communicative, and know what they are doing. We plan to do more updating to our house and definitely will contact them in the future!

I used this company for a couple of major projects and some minor repairs. They remodeled my basement and, later, when a tree fell on my house, did that repair as well. I especially appreciated the prompt repair after the tree strike. I will use them again if the need arises.

I had Doylestown Builders remodel my bathroom and I am very pleased with the outcome. They were on time & did a neat, professional job. It was a pleasant experience and I will have them back!

My husband and I worked with Doylestown Builders on an extensive project including a custom built kitchen, cocktail bar and creating an additional office and utility room. Despite the complexity and duration of the job, and some related cost over runs, overall Jon and his crew were always extremely attentive and eager to ensure that the job was done as we would like. We had previously worked with Doylestown Builders on remodeling our family room including adding custom wainscoting and installing a copper roofed-bay window and we were very pleased with the craftmanship and attention to detail. From our experience we would say that the Company do best with smaller projects and Jon and his crew worked hard and were always attentive and pleasant to work with.

After meeting with a couple of architects and several contractors, we chose Doylestown Builders. One of the reasons we picked Doylestown was the very detailed estimate – much more so than other two. This actually made comparing their estimate with the other two lower estimates more difficult but it gave us a much better idea of the costs and possible contingency cost. As the contract was being created, we spent a couple of hours on the phone going over all the categories and subcategories of work along with a timeline of what to have ordered and ready by when (like, when to get that range delivered). As the work progressed, the details in the categories and subcategories in the contract made the change orders much more understandable. So when we got to ripping up the multiple layers of old flooring, or replacing the back door, or the plumbing or updating the electrical, we knew there would be a range depending on how complicated or unforeseen the circumstances. Even at the initial meeting, the contractor had a detailed list and checked things off, adding his notes. So when we were comparing the contracts, we couldn’t just look at the numbers. Doylestown’s bid was higher, but including more detail. Although we got anxious about the change orders, the final cost was within a few percentage points of the original contract. And they communicated very well up and down the line, with us and with their office. In addition, we are not sure we would have made it though the process given all the problems we had with the cabinet company and the countertops, had it not been for the Doylestown crew. They had some challenges – retrofitting the cabinets for our industrial sink, customizing a pantry, and nothing was ever a problem, it was “let’s think of a way to make this work.” Their steady hand, good nature, high aesthetic, and ability to reframe problems as a solution waiting to happen. They made what is – let’s face it – a very disruptive process manageable. I when our beautiful kitchen was finished, but I miss not seeing the crew!

Doylestown Building & Remodeling Company did an excellent work, transforming our old kitchen and floor into a modern and beautiful space (Ikea Kitchen + Porcelanosa flooring) . They were very professional and extremely nice. They came few times after the job was completed to make small fixes and did not charge a penny. Would highly recommend them !

We recently completed a kitchen remodel with Doylestown Builders. We ended up with a terrific product. We are so happy with the professionalism of the crew and their responsiveness to our needs. We went through a number of changes along the way, and the crew and management were very accommodating and helpful. We have only good things to say about the process and our experience. We were especially impressed with the knowledge of skill of our team leader, Paul, who was extremely skilled in every area. His knowledge and execution are amazing. Pricing and payment was fair and transparent. They were open to questions and dialogue, and we were very happy at all levels of communication. If others are satisfied with their Doylestown Builders experience, we would encourage you to help spread the word. We highly recommend Doylestown Builders for your kitchen or other remodeling needs. If you want contractors to help install an IKEA kitchen, complete other remodeling, or work on general housing projects, you should strongly consider them. Beyond the quality of their work, we were also impressed with the availability and level of courtesy everyone displayed. From late-nite planning visits to accomodate our schedule, to real-time texting and emailing when we were unable to attend the worksite in person, everything was smooth. We had a great experience with Doylestown Builders!They installed our IKEA kitchen and also did some additional work. Their work was impressive. The crew was professional and respectful. The crew assisted me with decisions when small issues came up in the design and changes had to be made. They really listened to my concerns and were patient. The crew supervisor even gave me his cell #. I would hire them again for our next project.

We had wanted to remodel our kitchen for quite a while; November 2014 we visited our local Ikea to look at their kitchens. The salesperson recommended that we wait until February 2015, as there was going to be a new kitchen line. In February we contacted the kitchen design company that Ikea works with (Traemand) They came one day and in a 4 hour session helped us design our new kitchen. The next step was to order the kitchen components at our local Ikea. Traemand connects you to a local contractor, our contractor was Doylestown Builders. Construction started when all our kitchen cabinets and other components were scheduled for delivery. Our contractor, Doylestown Builders and the construction foreman, Alan, were fantastic! Alan and Doylestown Builders were always extremely professional and competent! Alan always thoroughly cleaned the area each day – kept in contact with us as to what would be completed each day and if there were any issues. IN the end start to finish the job took about 5 weeks – We did have an issue receiving all the cabinet doors that were ordered – Ikea was having trouble keeping up with demand for the new kitchen – but when the last doors did arrive Alan and Doylestown Builders were right there –installing the doors! I, wholeheartedly, recommend Doylestown Builders! They will be the company we go to for our next home project! The first photo is our old kitchen then three photos of the new kitchen!

I had a complete kitchen renovation with new cabinetry, floor, backsplash and appliances intermingled with some older/original fixtures that I wanted to keep and include. From the design of the kitchen through its completion, It was obvious that I was working with very capable, competent and thoughtful professionals from Doylestown. The workers always arrived on time and worked diligently throughout the day. They made suggestions about changes that added character to the kitchen and never deviated from the plan unless I signed off and approved. They accommodated me when I made changes to the original design after the project was started. The workers were extremely respectful, courteous and trustworthy. I felt comfortable leaving them alone in my house if I had something to do. They even came back after the job was completed to do minor fixes I wanted made. I would not hesitate to hire them for my next major project. Actually, They are the only company on my list.

I LOVE my newly remodeled kitchen by Doylestown Building & Remodeling. The crew was great, filled with creative ideas, great craftsmanship and very easy to work with. They care about every detail. I really missed them after they left the job site.

The installers were friendly, competent, and very resourceful. Complications arose due to a leak in my wall and they were very conscientious in addressing the problem even though it was not a part of the initial job. They explained what was going on throughout the installation process and finished in as timely a manner as possible. I would hire them again in an instant.

I originally met Jon and some of his exceptional craftsmen when we contracted to have our 189 yo stone cottage remodeled via IKEA. They did our kitchen, bathroom and many other aspects of our cottage both inside and out. Jon has always been so professional and, most importantly for me, an "I can do that" vs "well"....professional. After having our IKEA work completed to our immense joy, we then hired his company to do many other jobs, most recently a huge complete rebuild of our 3 Car garage. What is so important to remember when doing a rebuild is: always have an office professional (David) there to answer all questions and give you dates, schedules, etc. David is a jewel. Then have a company that when the job is complete and you call with an issue, they respond immediately and FIX THE PROBLEM. Then there is his staff. Beyond fabulous. I love them all and will recommend them to everyone who needs anything done. I've had terrible experiences, as have we all, with remodeling, so give yourself a gift and chose the best.

UPDATE: I heard back from the installers and they were able to address and resolve almost all of the issues I listed below. I appreciate the effort they made. I really like my new kitchen now that all of the issues are resolved. ORIGINAL REVIEW: This review is for people choosing an installer for an IKEA kitchen. We decided not to do it ourselves and instead hire the installer that works with IKEA. In this case we got Doylestown Building and Remodeling Company. Initially I was very happy with their work and their main installer seems like an honest straightforward worker. There were a few problems, however. First, the installer, although experienced with other forms of remodeling and building, had very little IKEA installation experience. He frequently was not sure how something was supposed to be installed. This would have worried me less had I not noticed that he did not always read the IKEA manuals that came with the items to install. We were only his 3rd IKEA kitchen that he installed, even though there were other installers in the company who had plenty of experience. Then, due to issues with another worker, the installer did nearly all of the work alone, without help. Although many parts of the kitchen can be done with one person, some tasks really are two person jobs. In fact, three times I was forced to stop what I was doing (I work from home) to help him move an appliance or help with something that required more than one person, because he was on his own. One time after this happened I said, "Next time you should have someone come with you, because this is a two person job." Sure enough, the next time he showed up alone and I had to help him again. When the kitchen was finally finished, on the whole at first I was pretty happy with it. But after I while I noticed some problems that really should have been taken care of, and that I will either have to live with or find a more capable company perform. 1. A shim was left hanging out around 4 inches below a cabinet. This will have to be trimmed. It seems to me extremely unprofessional to leave something like this when finishing a job, but NOT SURPRISING since the business owner rushed the work through and the main installer was working on his own. 2. Because of the rush, absolutely no cleanup was done after the fact. I had to dispose of a large bag of construction waste, there was sawdust all over the kitchen floor, and found sawdust in most of the drawers and cabinets that was never removed. Oh and there was never any effort during the install to tidy up after either. They installers got sawdust all over the floor & some of our belongs in the adjoining room. 3. The toekick installation is really messy, it just looks amateurish. Any homeowner with a table saw could have made a toekick that looked as good or better than what they did. There are very visible gaps where the pieces meet. 4. Two drawers were chipped/scratched during install. Not large chips or scratches, but still *not* acceptable for the install of a *brand new* kitchen. 5. MOST DISTURBING OF ALL: we planned the kitchen with an IKEA associate, who specified all of the pieces that would be required for the install. One major piece, a large cover panel to be used for support of the kitchen counter, was never used. When I asked the installers for clarification on why this piece was left over, I received no reply. As far as I know, the kitchen counter *appears* stable but could just as easily fall apart. Based on how it's installed, it isn't possible to look behind the part that was installed to see how sturdy it actually is. Based on these issues, I sent an email to the project manager. After not receiving any reply for two days, I sent a followup email. After *another* 2 days the manager's boss sent me a noncommittal apology along with an offer to "refund" $35 as a "gesture" to cover "some of your costs of cleaning, etc.". No mention was made whatsoever of my other, more pressing concerns. In response I sent another reply, again outlining the complaints I had with the install, complaints more serious than having to clean up. Honestly I think the inability to clean up after the install is a bad sign; it shows a lack of pride over workmanship and is almost like leaving a project uncompleted. OH, and let's not mention that for some reason, even though we pretty meticulously planned all of the components we would need for the kitchen (and cross-checked inventory on delivery), we still ended up not having all of the right hardware installed where it needed to be, and the installer lost a necessary piece of hardware for one of the drawers that we will need to go to IKEA and replace ourselves. Honestly, if they had just put the smallest effort in addressing my real complaints instead of offering me a token gesture of $35, I probably would not be leaving this negative review. But it's been over a week with no response, and I would rather people be aware of these issues. Was this review …?
