I hired the Merrill firm on two occasions. The first involved a one story addition and renovation in 2007 and the second involved some smaller projects in 2014. In 2007, the firm demolished a screened porch, remodeled the kitchen, and added a pantry, an accessible bathroom, a closet, and what I called an “away room” overlooking the back. I used their architect because of the nature of the project and that firm was excellent, in large part because they conceived a good plan for using the space very efficiently. The master carpenter in 2014 was wonderful in helping me make good decisions about things and he was very even-keeled. The production manager who was responsible for scheduling was very good helping with the selection of vendors and sub-contractors and keeping me posted on various matters. In 2014, I asked the firm to do a few things, including the installation of handrails to the entrance, the installation of a medicine cabinet and a grab bar in the second floor bathroom, and some electrical work. I was very happy with the workmanship, timeliness, and the professionalism of the firm on both occasions.

We needed an expansion and updating of a 1940's Cape Cod. We interviewed a number of companies and neighbors - and we kept coming back to Merrill Contracting. they bumped out the back of the house, brought a scary basement into the light and the 21st century created a cohesive floor plan for both floors. Dave and his guys were very good to deal with, very up-front about the process and what to expect as we went along. They stay in touch, on top of things, and on budget. We love our newly renovated house and would definitely work with them again.

Wonderful, smooth process completed on time and within budget. David Merrill and his team exceeded our expectations at every part of the renovation process. Truly world class and Merrill sets the standard for us for any home service that we need in the future. About our project: a major home renovation including gutting of baths, kitchen, removal of walls and upgrades to major systems. David Merrill, Steve Linger and their teams, including all employees and subs worked seamlessly together in a very pleasant, professional, meticulous and efficient fashion. After meeting with designers and making selections (a very pleasant process in itself) we did not need to worry about anything. Everything fell into place beautifully. Real-craftsmanship, true professionals, pleasant friendly team and subs, no issues before, during or after the project. We feel very fortunate to have worked with David Merrill and his team. Highly satisfied and very highly and enthusiastically recommend.

Dave and his team came in to help us with several renovation projects in our home, including a bathroom remodel, installation of a kitchen island, and creating a room for our nursery. The Merrill team was professional, courteous, prompt, and wonderful to work with. We could not have been happier with the work they did and how accommodating they were to additional requests we had. We will absolutely use them in the future and recommend them to friends.

Merrill Design Build carried out two projects for us in 2013. The first was the gutting of an old bathroom in a condo and the installation of a completely new bathroom. This project also included the installation of a new sliding door in the kitchen and new wiring in part of the condo. The second project involved constructing a new bedroom and bathroom; gutting and reconfiguring several rooms; and bumping out two rooms on the second floor of our house. All the work on both projects was done to our complete satisfaction. The Lead Carpenter and the overall Project Manager were particularly impressive - completely professional and easy to work with. Scheduling was handled with great efficiency and schedules were held to - as were budgets. All the subcontractors (architect, electric, plumbing, tile, flooring, painters) and suppliers were excellent. They all worked well together. The entire process was actually enjoyable for us. We would not hesitate to use Merrill Contracting again. In fact we are using them again for a small project to install a new window. We highly recommend them. Jim and Cathy Norris

We hired the services of Merrill for a complete house remodeling and addition of our 1936 brick Cape Cod. The work consisted of redoing everything in the original building, with the exception of one bedroom and the basement, and add a large family room, a master bedroom with walk-in closet, two full baths (including the master bath), a large wrap-around screened porch, a back deck and a side deck. The work was started in mid-November and was completed in June. The work was done in 8 months, on-time and on-budget. Merrill fully captured and delivered on our vision. The quality was outstanding, and the attention to details remarkable. Two years later, we are yet to experience what many told us are typical post-construction issues. To achieve such results, Merrill enforces very strong project management, keeps his subs accountable, keeps himself accountable, and foster communication throughout the effort. If I had another construction project, I would not hesitate to hire Merrill. When we come across a contractor who does an excellent work, we often refer them as being "Merrill-liked", meaning they value and deliver quality. You're likely to find lower cost builders, but your attention will go towards managing their inabilities more so than making your dream project come true.

This project involved gutting and removing walls of an existing kitchen, dining room, pantry and a long dark hall and converting the space into an open kitchen and dining area. Included were new cabinets, floors, walls, wiring including new service panel, insulation, moving an existing attic pull-down stairs, painting, and refinishing existing wooden floors to match the new kitchen and dining area flooring. Merrill started the project on time, and finished on time. Work progressed as scheduled with absolutely no delays. Except for several days during the finishing of the wood floors, we remained in the house. Workers showed up on time, were friendly, patient, considerate and respectful. and focused on satisfying what we wanted done, not what they thought we should have done. Minor changes were handled easily and within the scope of the original contract. Minor issues that came up after the completion of the project were quickly resolved. Absolutely outstanding in every respect and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Merrill to anyone.

We have done a lot of remodeling projects over the years (our house was built in the late 50s) and have worked with various general contractors. We have been especially happy with the three projects we did with Merrill Contracting & Remodeling. They did a beautiful job (all the demolition and installation work) when we completely remodeled two large bathrooms, which was our biggest project with them. They gutted both rooms, reworked the plumbing and electrical (to accommodate a bigger shower, a new stand-alone tub, and better lighting), changed a doorway, laid new tile, upgraded the insulation around a window, installed a lot of cabinets, and painted. David Merrill is a consummate professional. He was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire project - from initial discussions of the project contract through completion of the project "punch-list." Based on his decades of experience as a general contractor, he made suggestions to improve the project and addressed in a prompt and appropriate manner the inevitable issues that arise during a renovation project. Importantly, the work began on the date promised, continued without interruption until it was completed, and stayed exactly within budget. Further, Mr. Merrill's project crew was a delight to have in our house. Their work was top-notch and they left the house cleaned-up each day during the project before departing. We had a similar experience with each of the home renovation projects we have done with Merrill Contracting. Additionally, when questions or issues arose during or after any of the projects, Mr. Merrill or his Project Manager were always easy to reach and responded immediately to calls/emails. After contemplating major renovations for many years and interviewing several firms, we chose to work with Merrill Contracting and Remodeling to construct an addition for a new kitchen and screened porch, to rebuild a den space, and to fully renovate our basement, including relocating the furnace and hot water heater. The scope of the work required a full range of design and construction services, and the Merrill team brought all the pieces together to a very successful conclusion. Because we chose to live in our house throughout most of the work, it was especially important to us that the core members of the crew were friendly, reliable, and responsive. They made sure that the work was planned so that we always had heat, hot water, and a working bathroom, despite the challenges of a cold and snowy winter. On several occasions, the team responded successfully to our proposed modifications of the original plans to incorporate changes that have definitely increased our satisfaction with the finished product. The Merrill team was also able to accommodate our wish to limit the use PVC products and to employ an alternative decking material. For the few minor items that have surfaced since the work was completed, they have responded without hesitation. We highly recommend Merrill Construction and Remodeling.
