New Dimensions Construction

We worked with Ryan and his team to add 1,000 square feet to our downtown Raleigh house and renovate much more. They did an amazing job. We had a lot of unique features and requirements (like a trap door to the basement and an 11-foot accordion door), which they added without thinking twice. 5-star quality and flexibility. Ryan and his team give you a truly “custom” home.

We had the pleasure of working with Ryan, Susan and Larry of New Dimensions to do a whole house renovation of a vintage 1976 ranch in Cary. The project was essentially a gut job plus an addition. Even with supply chain disruptions due to the pandemic, the project completed on time and budget. We ran into a couple of older home renovation surprises and other challenges along the way which you have to expect with a project of our scale. However, Ryan was transparent, creative and collaborative to find solutions and always kept the project moving forward. After living in the house for a few years, we can’t say enough about how happy we are with the renovation outcome, and what a pleasure it was working New Dimensions.

Over the past 12 years, we have had 3 major projects with New Dimensions--a 2-story addition, a complete deck re-do, and most recently a kitchen/master bath renovation. Each time, we have been completely comfortable with the entire process, from estimation through the project to the final checklist. Larry, Susan, and Ryan are transparent in their estimations and pricing, and communication throughout the process is stellar. Their working relationship with the architect is great, and their subcontractors are all outstanding--so outstanding that we have continued to work with them whenever we need targeted work (plumbing, electrical, etc). Having grown up the son of a commercial/industrial contractor, I'm very familiar with how difficult the industry can be, and the challenges of the past 2 years made things even more difficult. I can honestly say that we were as happy with the process in 2020-2021 as we were in 2009, despite the issues caused by the pandemic. Although I'm hoping we don't have any more major projects in the near future, I know that when we do we'll be reaching out to Larry, Susan, and Ryan.

What an amazing team to work with. We met New Dimensions at the recommendation of our architect, Sophie Piesse. After interviewing 3 builders, New Dimensions immediately impressed us with their team approach, time spent understanding what was important to us, personalizing their proposal to what our architect and we felt was needed, and then partnering with us throughout the experience. New Dimensions communicates in such a way that we felt comfortable and connected with the renovation project from start to finish. The project took roughly a year to complete, and we came away feeling thrilled with the work. Strongly recommend.

Highly recommended! People told us that renovation projects almost always come in over budget and late, and that it is a very stressful endeavor. Having made it to the other side of our major reno project with New Dimensions Construction I cannot say that was our experience. To the contrary. New Dimensions Construction was great from start to finish. They were extremely professional in every aspect. From the beginning they were very clear about everything. Their timetables, prices and Gantt chart were nearly spot on throughout the entire project. No surprises. A reliable schedule was important because we had to rent a place during construction. So it was important for us to know when we could move back in and procure a lease agreement that worked within the project schedule. It worked out great. From meeting Susan, Larry and Ryan until our last day of the job they were easy on us. They are so professional, have all their i’s dotted and tees crossed before there is a signed contract. They have great subs who work with them as well as their own guys. We felt the process was fair, that the draws and final invoice made clear sense. I’ve built whole homes and other projects so know great General Contractors when I meet them. This team is the best of the best.

Working with New Dimensions eased the stress of restoring part of our house crushed when a massive oak fell during Hurricane Michael. The timeline for completion was right on target. Advance information and continuous communication kept us informed and all the steps on schedule. Everyone at ND was extremely professional, friendly and accommodating, as were the subcontractors, including with our adding some upgrades. We are extremely pleased with the results and the attention throughout the process. Highly recommend New Dimensions for any home construction project. They rock!

New Dimensions Construction just completed a renovation project at our house including a new elevator. Ryan Smith did a great job managing the project. Ryan kept us informed and explained the various project steps thoroughly. We are very pleased with the results which, in addition to the elevator, included a new deck with screened in porch, french doors and finishing half of our attic space for temperature controlled storage. We recently completed a major kitchen / home remodel with New Dimensions Construction. Also included was extensive rock work, new decking, interior / exterior painting, floor / beam refinishing, and skylight replacement. One reason that we selected this company was because of their use of subcontractors to visit and personally determine the scope of the job, and therefore give more realistic / accurate quotes before settling on contract. The New Dimensions team was always responsive, professional, and pleasant to work with. Their subs were also dependable and hard working. We were pleased with the end result and are now enjoying the quality workmanship and beautifully-finished changes to our home. We would definitely recommend New Dimensions to others considering such a project and seeking high quality contractors.

Keeping in mind that no home improvement project goes 100% smoothly and as planned, it is essential to hire a contractor that can address the inevitable issues and surprises that happen and will ensure that their customer is happy. That is what my husband and I found with New Dimensions. We had interviewed a handful of general contractors but ultimately chose New Dimension because they are a small family-owned company, were very excited about our project and willing to work within our timelines. Their ballpark estimate was very accurate and Susan (owner/financial manager/estimator) kept us informed on the budget throughout the process. We embarked on our whole house renovation in 2017. We lived in two rooms in the house throughout the project. One of the rooms (a bedroom) was turned into a temporary kitchen for us by New Dimensions. We were impressed with how fully functional it was. New Dimensions installed our wall oven and ran gas and water lines to give us our kitchen sink and gas cooktop. Of course we also had our refrigerator in there too. They ensured that we had a least one functional bathroom throughout the project (and most of the time we had 2 of our 3 bathrooms functioning at the same time). We also had use of our washer and dryer every weekend. We were told that the whole project would take 6-7 months to complete, but that 6 months might be overly optimistic. The project was completed in 7 months. Naturally there were unexpected issues that set us back time-wise. Discovery of metal lathe behind our plaster walls prolonged demolition. When issues came up, New Dimensions had us involved in the resolution. They made every effort to make us as comfortable as possible as we lived in our construction zone. When the original plan of needing less than an hour of downtime from our central air conditioning had to change (to several weeks) due to unexpected necessary changes to the HVAC system, New Dimensions placed three window A/C units in the key areas of our home. We were generally happy with their subcontractors, especially their plumber Mitch and the whole electrical crew. There were some communication issues with the painters but they did a fabulous job with all of the interior and exterior painting. Really top-notch quality work. We had multiple problems with the tile installers (Custom Stone and Marble): 1) the manager of the tile work never replied to our architect’s multiple requests for confirmation of square footage of tile needed for the master bath (which we were buying on our own- so we had to make our best estimate and somehow there was only one tile left after installation), 2) the master bath countertop – purchased from CS&M - was cracked upon installation which was later repaired but crack is still visible and no discount/refund extended to us, 3) incorrect cutting of corbels and shelf shape for shelves inside the master bath shower, despite our written instructions (only one of the shelves could be fixed once we discovered the error) and 4) grout that has not held up per our expectations (black mold despite regular cleaning) which is still in the process of being resolved. We recommend using a different tile installer or ensure that New Dimensions is in charge of resolving issues with them beyond the completion of the project. New Dimensions always did the right thing when it came to making us happy. We would hire them again in the future if needed and have often recommended them to our friends and neighbors.
