Nancy Van Natta Associates

We worked with Nancy on a pretty extensive house remodel. We first contacted her on a recommendation from our real-estate agent to help us with furnishing of our new home. She ended up putting together a team of herself, an architect and contractor in a very short time frame so we could get started quickly which in an environment where it's very hard to find anyone available was amazing. She worked with the architect to remodel our house: help bring light into a fairly dark house, redo stairs, redesign the fireplace, modernize our kitchen and various other changes. All came out great. Nancy saved us tons of time by pre-selecting material for the kitchen (counter top, back splash) and colors for the rest of the house. She also took care of shades. She also found for us someone who could build a custom dining table. Once the remodeling was underway Nancy and her (always very helpful) staff helped with the furnishing by sending us selection and adjusting it based on our feedback. Nancy also let us use her warehouse to store our pieces of furniture until the house was ready for them. Another nice touch was Nancy and her staff came to the house to do the wall decoration for our children's rooms. Nancy is also very dedicated, our project took way longer than planned and she stayed involved until we could finally move in. Nancy was always very available to meet or communicate via emails. When the unavoidable crisis occurred she was a voice of reason and helped get things straighten out. Nancy is also very patient and highly professional. Most important we are delighted to live in our new home.

We feel so lucky to work with this team. Nancy just exudes elegance and grace and her history of comfortable and beautiful design reflects these virtues. Every one of her projects is magazine ready. We have noticed that with Nancy Van Natta Associates projects there is not one thing that just stands out commanding attention. Instead, the proportions, the lines, the light, the color and texture are so well considered that they work in quiet and comfortable harmony creating rooms that one longs to inhabit. It is obvious that these things come naturally to her. She has been able to create a team that is capable of carrying forth her vision. One would be fortunate to work with this group. It was an absolute pleasure working with Nancy on our new home. She assisted in all aspects of the design including cabinets, plumbing fixtures, lighting, paint, flooring, and appliances. She also provided input on construction finishes such as interior door design, baseboards, window casing, and exterior stone veneer. We couldn't have been happier with the finished project. Her vast experience has given her an amazing vision for design and helped bring our dream to life in new and exciting ways we wouldn't come up with on our own. Nancy did a wonderful design both for a large kitchen renovation and an upstairs bathroom. The kitchen is a masterpiece-it was even on the cover of a design magazine for older homes. She was very aware of this 1911 Mill Valley home and it arts and crafts heritage and produced a modern kitchen but was respectful of its lineage. We could not have been happier. She is a lovely woman and so easy to work with and has a great eye. There are so many decisions and she helped us novices through this morass of options. A+, Barbara

Nancy Van Natta and I have worked together on several projects over the past few years, and I couldn’t recommend her more highly. Nancy has a great design sense, a knack for working with exacting clients who know what they want but need help with realization and unlike most designers I know, is able to fit abstract design ideas into the real world of nails, paints and construction schedules. I first worked with Nancy on a large scale remodel and addition for a home in Palo Alto. I was the general contractor and she was the designer. This was a complicated project that required a lot of problem solving from both of us and the results couldn’t have been better. Nancy was great to work with, very good with the clients, and always available to answer questions. Above all, the house looked amazing when it was done. The finishes were beautiful and the kitchen and bathroom designs were just great and the clients were thrilled. In fact, the kitchen earned both of us two prestigious, nationally-recognized CotY awards. I just finished building a new house on speculation in Burlingame. I needed someone to help with the style of the house and the interior and exterior finishes. I looked to Nancy because I knew she could do a great design and she also had the business sense to understand the pressures of schedule and budget that are so important on a spec house. She did a fantastic job on all the color work, designed the trim details throughout, specified all the finishes and lighting and designed the kitchen and four bathrooms. One of the most gratifying moments of the whole project was when the eventual buyer told me the house’s transitional craftsman styling was exactly what he and his wife wanted. It felt as if he’d been sitting in the design meetings Nancy and I had where we chose not to go with the tired detailing that ever other builder in town is doing but go with something fresh and original. Nancy was instrumental in helping me make this decision in large part because she was able to show me what kind of details her other clients were choosing. She was then able to put together the details into a coherent style and vision that literally knocked the socks off prospective buyers but was still within my budget. The house was a terrific success. We finished on time and the uniqueness of the design and detailing meant we were able to get a record price.

Nancy Van Natta is a consummate design professional who has worked with me on a number of challenging projects during the past 15 years. In what had originally been a "spec" house on Mt. Tamalpais in Mill Valley, Nancy did an outstanding job of adding riveting architectural elements that boosted my home's uniqueness while adding warmth, character and charm. As many of the rooms opened up to each other in an open plan design, furniture, paint and fabric choices needed to flow and cohere. Nancy did a beautiful job of adding interest and texture to each individual room while having them blend seamlessly with each other and the outdoors. And while I tend to favor a more traditional design style, my home's architecture is modern. Nancy did a brilliant job of juxtaposing the home's modern sensibilities with timeless pieces and objects with patina. She utilized textural paint treatments and commissioned an artist to design an exquisite silver leaf mirror in my dining room, evoking a warm rather than hard-edged modernism. She did an absolutely brilliant job of redesigning my kitchen and baths, finding space I didn't know I had, opening up mountain views and eliminating superfluous features (the silly wet bar)! The result was, and is, breathtaking. Nancy also helped design a more traditional house for my family in colonial Maryland that honors the history and character of that venue while incorporating modern, pragmatic elements. Nancy has also helped my family with design advice on commercial properties and has done projects with friends who have also been deeply satisfied with her work. I cannot recommend Nancy highly enough. Warm, generous and deeply intuitive, Nancy's easy artistry and obvious high intelligence sets her apart. She divines solutions where none are immediately obvious. She has a keen sense of what will work and is unafraid to take risks. She works exceedingly well with others and nearly always meets deadlines and budgets. She's a wonderful listener and will incorporate client design preferences but will save them from themselves when necessary. (A holdover from her days as a top technology marketing executive in Silicon Valley, no doubt)! I heartily recommend Nancy for her sophisticated design expertise, her integrity, and her outstanding results.

Working with Nancy Van-Natta for the past year has been a great experience. She is extremely knowledgeable of the industry and sensitive and respectful to your needs and opinions. Nancy provided us with peace of mind throughout the construction of our new home. She was able to achieve the look we were after and worked well keeping us on track and meeting deadlines. Nancy is very down to earth, patient, and has an excellent worth ethic. She is on time, reliable, and responsive. Our project required us to be on a tight budget and Nancy was able to respect that. She found a custom furniture company,designed a couch that worked within our budget , fit our room size, and was comfortable for my husband who is 5'10" and myself who is 5'1". From the casing size of our windows to the window coverings and hardwood floor selections, Nancy was pivotal in designing our new house. I would highly recommend her to family members and friends!
