We hired Robert to help design a side return kitchen extension in east London. We needed someone helping find the right design that was also affordable within our budget and at the same time advising on the right layout to best use the space. We’ve had exactly what we needed, professional service and great people to work with. As a structural engineer myself, I also enjoyed the collaboration with Robert and his team.

When I was looking for an architect for my Victorian house renovation I met with several architects who had overseen similar projects with a high level of finishing. I went with Robert based largely on his body of work, his enthusiasm and deep knowledge of the London home.
I am really glad I did so.
Robert is the most thoughtful and collaborative architect I've had the pleasure to work with. He has huge sensitivity for how a house should 'behave' as well as innovative and sympathetic ideas to update a design. From the first theoretical conversations to the snagging he was a wonderful partner and always available for advice.
In some cases I have pretty strong opinions and Robert took those ideas, tempered them with the practicalities, and came back with ideas, drawings and reference that helped me realise them. And when I needed more guidance he could suggest plenty of options to help find a look and style I was happy with. And that is from the structural design right through to the last light switch and door knob.
I have a home now that encompasses both its traditional nature and some very modern aspects. And I wouldn't have got there with Robert's advice, taste and expertise.

Robert took on a challenging brief and played the pivotal role in transforming a neglected building full of potential into our dream home. The challenges spanned the technical and the aesthetic, and Robert handled each aspect with equal aplomb. It took his patience and expertise to flesh out and then realise our vision, and not a day goes by that we don't appreciate the wonderful result.

I would normally hesitate to recommend tradespeople to friends and colleagues. But I would recommend Robert in a heartbeat.
Robert oversaw a full renovation of my Victorian 3 bedroom house. He helped me organise my ideas and define the brief. Which he answered with well thought out, logical solutions, that helped me make the most of my space.
He's a smart guy, who knows his stuff technically. But more than that, he's got great ideas, and impeccable taste, which made him a trusted partner on the design side too.
When things got stressful, his calm, confident, approach was reassuring. And communication was generally excellent (as was his vintage, duck-egg blue Vespa).

Robert Rhodes managed the complete refurbishment of our house in Camden. He successfully navigated some tricky planning issues (the house is Grade 2 Listed) and came up with an agreed design that was both innovative yet in keeping with the style of this c1840's property. Importantly, his design aligned very closely with our own concept of what we wanted. He has moved the centre of gravity of the house to the basement, created a lovely conservatory with striking double height glass doors that creates a sense of space and an open invitation into our small garden at the back. Elsewhere, a lot of steel and glass has been used, all complimenting the mainly monotone colour palette. The house is cool, restful and almost exactly what we were looking for at the outset. We are happy clients and would definitely recommend Robert to others.

Selecting the right architect is very individual and not an easy task. We were drawn to Robert Rhodes' designs, firm size and passion for our project. However, as the process started to get underway, a number of issues arose and it became clear that we would need a different architect to complete our project. Many months (9m+) after we had stopped working together, our project was still featured on Robert Rhodes website with text that suggested that this was still a project that the firm was working on. We learned valuable lessons throughout this process.

I employed this firm to fully refurbish my bathroom in Arundel Square, Islington.
They provided an excellent service throughout with planning, drawings, supervising the works and project managing from the beginning to the end.
Very professional and very good value for money. Would definitely recommend them

We met with a number of architects and Robert was the one we felt was not only right for the project but a good personality match for us too.
he was very thorough - listening to our requirements and taking them on board no matter how specific or vague they were.
He came back with a number of proposals and some ideas we really hadn't considered.
He helped us navigate the planning process and find our tradespeople and builders.
He was on site often and sent great site reports so all interested parties were aware of progress, decisions, outstanding actions and so on.
He has been interested in how our use of the space has evolved over time.
A real pleasure to work with.

I worked with Robert on a complete internal remodel of my two-bedroom flat in a conservation area in Islington. It was the first time I’d ever done anything like this and the guidance and experience Robert offered throughout the whole process was invaluable.
After discussing my ideas, Robert went away and came up with an entirely new layout (including various design features) for the flat which was far better than I ever imagined it could be. He also supervised the tender process and found an excellent construction company, who carried out the work to a very high level.
The work involved re-instating a number of period features, which is something I know very little about. However, Robert’s interest and experience with period and listed properties in the area meant that we had was able to suggest suitable designs and suppliers and the result has been truly transformative.
I would highly recommend Robert to anyone looking for a remodel or re-design of any scale. Finally, to echo one of the other reviewers on here, Robert is also a really nice, personable guy who was a pleasure to work with.

I'd highly recommend Robert to anyone who is considering / planning building works. I'd never worked with an architect before and was wondering whether to bother, or just get the builder to crack on. I am very glad I involved Robert in the project. In a series of really friendly, easy going conversations he helped us think about what we wanted from our kitchen / family room extension project. His drawing and CAD plans were fantastic. His experience and ideas had a huge influence on the end result, a large room onto a patio and garden which we love and now spend lots of time in. And he's a very nice guy.

Robert was my architect on the renovation of a grade II listed apartment in a Victorian house in Primrose Hill, London. The apartment had been split into an apartment from a house decades before and in a very unsympathetic manner. Robert came up with a design for restoring the apartment to its former glory by reinstating original architectural features and remodelling the floor plan over 2 floors to maximise space and make the space modern in its utility. Robert is very talented in his creative vision both in terms of use of space and aesthetic appeal. He has a unique attention to historic detail and spends a lot of time researching appropriate detailing and materials. He is exceptionally diligent and always makes himself available to the client. He really cares about his projects and strives to get the best overall finish while working within practical parameters of budget. He is also an exceptionally nice guy and very easy to work with.

We used Robert for our recent renovations, which included a complete overhaul of the downstairs area of the house with a new kitchen/side return extension.
We orginally chose Robert because of his experience with our local (difficult) planners. And thought we knew what we wanted even though we've not renovated before. But he came up with some great alternative ideas, which turned out to make all the difference to the project. We now have a great space that we are proud to show off and which has changed the way we live.
From the start of the project, it was Robert's persuasive nature that got us through planning smoothly. He then worked calmly and efficiently to take us through the next stages of the process: helping to negotiate the scope of work and costs with our (also excellent) builders, motivating and keeping them on track, and then helping us finalise the project and costs. Overall it was about as positive a process as one can hope for!
