Urban Pioneering Architecture
Brooklyn, NY Architects
7 February 2014
From our first meeting, it was clear that Jim would put his all into our job. Throughout a long design and build time frame he never flagged. I'm sure we weren't the easiest clients--- lots of opinions, evolving needs, impatient with delays, heavily involved. His good humor and steady guidance under pressure were greatly appreciated. Renovating any 120 year old building is full of surprises--- our project certainly had its share of twists and turns. JIm anticipated many potential problems and the issues he couldn't have seen coming, he handled admirably. One example— during he course of construction Jim discovered a potentially unsafe structural condition that could have cost a fortune to correct if the most obvious solution were pursued. Instead, he and his engineering team came up with a brilliantly simple alternate approach that corrected the irregularity for a marginal cost. Jim was able to work well with the tradesman, insisting on professionalism without getting into ego games, confident in his knowledge and still open to alternate solutions. He is thoroughly versed in the intricacies of the applicable building codes, skilled in the various crafts, resourceful and professional. What was most gratifying is that he clearly took a personal stake in the success of the project. Late hours, early mornings, many site visits and trips to the D.O.B.; without his dedication, we would not have the home we have today.

Eric Lifton was amazing. We gutted a loft space that hadn't been touched for three decades and he completely re-imagined the raw space into a home that perfectly suited our growing family. We have lived there now for four years and continue to be unbelievably satisfied with everything that he did. In addition to being a creative genius, Eric was timely and responsible and helped us execute our plan within budget and on time. Overall, the experience was wonderful and we could not be more satisfied.

WAKE was incredibly great to work with. Nathan and his team were SO helpful and responsive. They always listened to me and my concerns and had creative and thoughtful ideas. They were happy to find ideas for me to respond to, or to let me find things and then weigh in on them. Really helped with the whole process. There are SO many decisions and it was great having them available whenever I needed them. They clearly have a tremendous amount of experience and knew the right places to look for things, and important things for me to consider. I will definitely work with them if I have another project.

I found Ben Herzog Architects while browsing Houzz.com. I would add photos to my ideabook and discovered that most of the projects were done by Ben! Ben has been great helping us decide how we can maximize space in our 1917 Brooklyn row house. We have decided on a more open floor plan, new wood plank floors, high hat lighting, a bit larger kitchen space with higher ceiling and an island, a shallow broom closet and banquette seating in our dining room. The demolition began 9/5/12 and as a result we have discovered that we can open up the doorway openings even more than planned! Ben is happily revising his drawings and I can't wait to see the changes! Ben and his team are easy to work with and very helpful with design and product ideas while keeping our budget in mind!
Ronnette Riley Architect
Brooklyn, NY Architects
22 July 2014
It was a pleasure working with Ronnette Riley and her team. I had a budget in mind when first imagining the project. Ronnette was completely straightforward with me from the beginning about where my original budget and reality would soon diverge; as a result there were no financial surprises. She and here colleagues guided me through the design process, addressing the elements that I wanted and suggesting additional ways in which to achieve the overall atmosphere I had in mind. The space I purchased was dated and out of synch with the building’s iconic mid-century design by its internationally renowned architects; RRA guided its return to its architectural roots. With reconfigurations of door placements, a redesign of the kitchen and bathroom, and the creation of a wrap-around cantilevered bookcase, the space looks better and is far more functional. I also appreciated the fact that RRA handles all aspects of design, from its structure to the interior finishes. RRA helped me select through a wide variety of vendors mid-century furniture, window treatments, and rugs – assembled in a way that tied all of the spaces together. Having one firm handle the entire process was not only much easier to manage (relieving me of a lot of potential hassle), but it also resulted in a cohesive design. I am thrilled with my new home and I would recommend RRA to anyone.

My husband and I renovated an entire floor of our duplex apartment with Otto and Erik. We completely gutted the kitchen, living room, and bathroom, knocking down walls and reconfiguring the entire area. It was a huge project and we could not have been more happy with Otto and Erik's work. In this process there were hundreds upon hundreds of choices to make, their attention and assistance was invaluable. Otto and I shared boards on pinterest, house--you name it. He even went to a showroom with me to pick out bathroom fixtures. He made a concerted effort to understand our esthetic and incorporate it into our design. He also introduced me to stores, showrooms, and products I otherwise would have never known existed. The ultimate product was everything we wanted. Actually, it was remarkable like the renderings, which incidentally were so realistic they fooled my mother into thinking we completed the job before construction even began--another great feature of their work. I would also state that like many homeowners who have strong opinions on light fixtures, tiles, flooring (hate it/love it/who does that/I want it) and are willing to spend thousands on the beautiful thing you need to have and gripe over the hundred for the actual thing you need to have--we were a pain in the butt. Otto and Erik rolled with our punches, were incredibly patient, and nothing but professional. With the scope of our project requiring many meetings and conversations, it certainly helped that we not only respected their expertise, but also genuinely enjoyed their company. I could not recommend them more highly!

I live in Manhattan and have a country house in the Catskills upstate. The house is a contemporary design built in the mid 1970's. The "bones" were great but the aesthetic was completely wrong. We had Kimberly redesign the interior of the entire house - from moving electrical work, plumbing, windows and walls to choosing finishes and fixtures. She is amazing and I have referred her to many friends and clients. Next.... the apartment.

Neil is amazing. I am a new developer and he was always available, explained everything to me and helped me make intelligent choices. As a result my four rental apartments always get rented within a week. They look like condo finishes but did not cost nearly as much as how expensive they look. In addition I ran into some structural and equipment problems. He helped streamline the repairs and helped me feel confident that I was making the right choices for my building. My project lasted for a couple of years because after I renovated two of the units two more became available. It was always a pleasure to have Neil on my team. He can tackle any project from small to large!
