Mosaic Design

One year on I have a new favourite place in my life thanks to Christine of Mosaic design. It is my beautiful Italian inspired courtyard garden which has effectively become another room for my house. I live in Wellington where my sheltered courtyard has always captured the sun. I knew it had potential but I needed help with how to best maximize the space with the right plantings and paving. I loved the formal gardens I had visited in Italy and fantasized I could replicate some of that on a smaller scale. And we did! Chris began her plan with a blank canvas so we took out most of the old overgrown shrubbery. Along the back fence line Chris planted a row of slender Tuscany inspired Cyprus trees. These she underplanted with white hydrangeas and white delphiniums. We added a garden shed, which along with the fencing we stained black. Chris cleverly added a small citrus grove and lavender plots under a silver birch tree which are a haven for bees pollinating as they go from lavender to lemons and limes. Along one fence she added a hedge of fairy magnolias and the other she trained a white jasmine both of which have a delicate fragrance. To this she added a small garden of white roses encased with box hedging which provides a backdrop to a modern water feature fountain which sits in the middle of 2 black planter boxes (illuminated) To finish Chris added big pavers cut on the diagonal which draws your eye into the garden. Needless to say she is now designing my front.

Excellent advice taking into account my preferences but also bringing new ideas for me to consider, such as paving around lawns and outdoor furniture. The project included the redesign of an area which had been ruined when a large beech tree was uprooted and I needed advice on plants for this and other areas. Arranging the purchase of plants, employing gardeners and pavers was included in the project. After the initial work was completed the follow up has been very helpful.

Chris from Mosaic Design designed a makeover of a very tired & neglected part of our back garden. While we had many of our own ideas, we couldn’t pull it all together. Chris helped us work out what we really wanted, and how to fit that into the space we had. We had no idea about the right plants for our, at times, very windy site. We have ended up with a lovely brick and aggregate concrete patio, timber and old repurposed brick planter boxes, a fabulous timber pergola with spa semi-enclosed, wirework with creeping jasmine & beautiful plants that have withstood a very windy spring/early summer. We would highly recommend Chris as a great designer, super easy to work with, and very knowledgeable about plants appropriate for Wellington's climate. Chris sourced all the trees (including column ornamental pears) and plants herself, and coordinated all the other services (wirework, planting etc.) for us. We are very happy with our garden!

After our house renovation our front garden was in serious need of landscaping. Chris came up with ideas that were,both, innovative and exciting. Her knowledge of planting and hard landscaping is second to none and she backs this up with her recommendations/base of appropriate services to use. However it is her passion and enthusiasm that is infectious and her ongoing follow up service is outstanding. Would highly recommend.

Highly creative and full of sound advice, with skills to implement the design. Costing analysis of project clear. I hired her when I was director of Vaughan Park, and went through due process w my board as related by marriage. We were very appreciative of her vision. Not completed as Fund raising efforts (not in her brief) not fulfilled. May well come back to it w new director.

Chris is a very creative and experienced garden designer. Chris is also a very nice person to deal with. Chris can help you with construction plans, planting plans, plant suggestions for pots and garden, wire work such as espalier and similar, selection and placement of outdoor furniture and ongoing maintenance. Chris came up with a very elegant solution to my garden problems that way exceeded my expectations. Throughout the process Chris has given a lot of advice and ideas and has put me in touch with other 'good professionals' e.g. paving company. I look forward to many happy hours in my new garden.

So happy we found Chris from Mosaic Design. Great communication, ideas and enthusiasm, very professional. Chris incorporated so many special features and elements into the design she came up with for our courtyard garden: eg staggered pavers, strip lighting in the ground, attractive stainless steel fittings for an espaliered tree. She sourced the planting that would flourish in our sometimes windy situation, and was able to put us in touch with the right contractors. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Chris, working with her was a very enjoyable experience.

Chris from Mosaic Design did a great job in designing our new garden. Our outdoor space is relatively small, and we wanted a modern, contemporary look that made best use of the available space. Chris’s design incorporates porcelain pavers, artificial grass, new gardens, a fabulous steel and cedar pergola, and wire on the fences to support climbing jasmine. We are thrilled with the result and loved working with Chris throughout the project. She has a real knack for taking your half formed ideas and turning them into something special. Highly recommend.

Chris Prebble designed and created my garden in Khandallah, Wellington. She was very professional, innovative and tolerant of any ideas that I had. Chris was always prepared to work with me and for that I was very grateful. Her plan complemented the house and how I would access the garden.
