Nichola has over 28 years’ experience in the landscape industry after graduating from Lincoln University with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (Hons). Her experience includes design and project management of projects in the residential, commercial, resort and large scale urban planning market throughout New Zealand and the Middle East. Nichola has also spent time on the National Executive for the NZ Institute of Landscape Architects and as a contributing writer for numerous professional publications. After spending time in both the private and public sectors Nichola started her own landscape practise in 2013 focusing on personalised service in the residential market. As well as maintaining a successful business Nichola and her husband Charlie spend their spare time with their two active boys around the local sport fields as coaches and supporters. They live a busy lifestyle and enjoy hitting the local beaches and great outdoors. They are hands on in the family garden and intend to use their skills to develop their new property in the Bay of Plenty. Nichola’s and her team’s goal is to use their combined skills and experience to provide personalised landscape architectural and design solutions that inspire and exceed their clients’ expectations.

Having met Nichola at a Tauranga Home Show we embarked on a 2 year staged landscape redesign of our property. The creation of the masterplan allowed for a 3 stage roll-out of our design over the 2 years. The process from concept plan to project delivery was highly creative and collaborative. Nichola's attention to detail and seamless project planning, made the process both easy and fun. The end result is a beautiful cohesive landscape plan that enhances our living spaces and home. We were fortunate to have Nichola Vague as our landscape designer for Fantail Farm in Clevedon, and I can’t recommend her highly enough. We had an ambitious staged development plan for our country home, that included a large subtropical natural pool area, tennis court and house extension all with landscaping. Nichola supported us superbly throughout the entire planning and briefing process. Nichola immediately understood what we wanted, then helped us craft briefs to communicate clearly to tradespeople. She developed a detailed masterplan, which provided the central blueprint which the entire team depended upon daily, including the pool builder and drainage/earthworks teams through to the electrician and concrete layers. Nicola’s expertise includes design flare initiating unique elements and ideas, while also providing practical leadership to ensure the team understands the brief and quality required. All this, plus she is a pleasure to work with, flexible and reliable in every way. We have thoroughly loved our experience with Nichola of Zones & the good crew of people working for her. We started out wanting a pathway & landscape tidy-up of our back yard area but her ideas & great workmanship inspired us to continue around both sides of the house & on to the driveway. She made it easy with her great communication & efficient contractors. Nichola designed the layout of pathways, the border & seat construction, offered plant selection & supply, organised builders, concrete layers, electricians & gardeners, with delivery of all these aspects under her management. I was always kept in the loop & she was happy to adjust things if they didn’t seem right & to explain her vision when we weren’t sure. She expects a high level of service from her contractors as that is what she provides for her clients. I always felt I could approach her & she was always on site when needed, even though she had other projects on the go. We can’t recommend her highly enough. Our outdoor space is now more than we could have imagined & we love it- thank you Nichola.

From design concept to plant selection and final construction Nichola's project provided us with the most satisfying part of our house build. The minute Nichola walked into my drive way I knew we were going to get on perfectly. We both share such a love for gardens and projects. Nichola's ideas are well thought out from the shape / design and the plants ..... I love that she thinks outside the square, that for me was awesome as I like to be different and standout from the run of the mill. We are still working on a number of projects with completion due to be around November this year. I am excited about the last projects we have and have full trust in Nichola that everything is going to turn out Fabulous !
