Professional Information

I'm a freelance photographer, originally from New York, now living and working from Christchurch, New Zealand. I've had thirty years' experience in commercial advertising photography, working for big accounts and big agencies. Especially noteworthy is my delightful experiences shooting interiors for Art&Antiques magazine covering Paul Cezanne's studio interior in Aix-en-Provence, vintage retro kitchens in New York, and Matisse's church in the south of France, amongst many other assignments. I'm obsessive about lighting and composition (as I started my career using FILM), and don't just "start shooting" hoping the perfect image will be in amongst the thousands of snaps. For my Palm Springs, CA home, I relied upon Lisa Powers to set the right visual tone in the house through her tremendous sense of style and stunning photographs. Her photo prints now hang in the main rooms-living room, dining room, master bedroom. Her range of available images is extensive.

I ve known and used the services of Lisa Powers for more than 35 years. She is brilliant as well as professional and is able to capture something in her photographs -- in my case used for the back covers of several of my books -- that no one had been able to do, before or after. We also collaborated on a short film, Havana, based on a poem I had written. That short film was shown at the Independent Film Market in New York. In filling in this form I was asked the date when I used Ms. Powers work, however was unable -- given the choices on the grid -- to fill it in correctly. Therefore, I will disclose here that I met Lisa Powers in 1976 when we were both on the staff of BooksWest magazine. Later, when the magazine folded, the trajectory of her career took off and the singular style of her photography was lauded. To paraphrase another writer, she has vision where the rest of the world wears bifocals. I recommend her services with no reservations.
