Yeah, I've experienced this and it's a PITA. In SC I do most of my shopping at Aldi and Kroger. I love that Aldi just has low prices and you don't have to jump through hoops to get them. Kroger at least has signage telling you there's a coupon so I will download it at the store. I look through the coupon deals in advance but there are like a hundred of them and maybe three for something I'd buy - big waste of time. I also shop at Costco sometimes - they just give you the discount too.

Petalique, it's never been a concern of mine either. I personally do not know of anyone that still has a landline and you have to give out your phone number to do almost anything online - pay bills, order goods and services, track mail or deliveries, download apps. In all the many years I have given some organization my cell phone number, I have never received a marketing call. I sometimes will get some unwanted or uunnecessary text messages but you can typically opt out of that.

I still have a landline, and that's the number I give out. I have only ever gotten two spam calls on my iPhone. No one knows that number except my kids. Not my doctor, dentist, anyone.

We have bonus points at our large Giant market, which has a gazillion stores around here. We shop at the flagship store and get points for gas. Then apps appear on his iPhone, giving the bargains of the week. I buy most of my food from Traders.

I got some that were like that once. I didn't realize it until I'd cut through it from the side. That didn't really work. We don't eat hotdogs but we eat bratwurst. Those didn't seem to fit into the top slot very well. Maybe I need to try it again.

I'm stll trying to figure out the distinction. I grew up in NYC , now live in Pa, and it sems whatever hotdog buns I've purchased are what I expected.

Can anyone tell me what kind I likely gravitate to? The growing up in NYC ( Brooklynto be more precise) may be the clue needed.

This is all new to me.

I tried them, but did not like the top slit. Will go back to side cut. Not enough room for everything that I like with the hot dog.

Just lost my post... Shorter version.

3katz, you are doing great! It will all be behind you in no time.

I really really like to organize and purge/donate. I think it's more of a curse though. LOL

Sent DH this photo last Saturday when he was on his monring walk. HIs reply "STOP!" My said I was helping by moving things he needed to reach easier for hiim (true). I also wanted to move things I rarely use in the lower double door cabinet to the hated corner cabinet. I ordered a bottom mounted, soft close wooden pull-out drawer to make what is stored there easier for me.

The cabinet above the coffeemker is our breakfast cabinet. I use OXO POP cereal containers for cereals, granola, walnuts and grits. Much quicker and easier than dealing with boxes, interior bags and clips. especially for DH.

I wish I could get him to donate the majority of his coats and jackets - so many. He wants the garage tool closet organized too, and has been saying so the last two years.

I got derailed today in a fun way. We have a bunch of clear storage bins in the basement with what I call memorobilia. We moved them out of the attic at our lake place when we thought we were selling that. At that time I had purged quite a bit and got down to about 8-10 bins. Now the same movers will be moving them back. Crazy, huh.

On my way to the "hardware store" on the other side of the basement, I could see something of mine inside one of them that I knew I no longer wanted to keep. So I dug into that one and what a hoot. Among many other things was a scrap book type thing with all kinds of photos of interior decor. I don't remember making it but I must have been in grade school. I have no idea what inspired me to do this unless it was some kind of assignment for 7th grade home ec. Anyway, it's hilarious and some day when I have time I'll take some pics and post them here.

I went through all the bins and sorted and labeled them based on whose things were inside - me with my maiden name (childhood stuff), my deceased brother's things, DH's old family things - mostly of his father's, DH's things, and things of ours together. It was definitely time well spent as I did throw quite a bit away and now everything is labeled for the movers and whoever goes through this stuff when we're dead. I have no living relatives that I'm in contact with but DH does and if they want to go through his things it will make it easier to not have to look through mine. And on another somewhat morbid but practical note, I was thinking it will be easier if we reach the point we need to pull out some stuff for a celebration of life event.

I shop there regularly and have a bunch of regular things I buy there - typically produce, milk, juice, bread, cheese and some meat. I buy eggs there but don't always have eggs around. I go there first and then make one or two other stops to get the things I need that they don't carry. The prices are almost always lower than the other places I shop - Target, Kroger, Costco. I always leave the skin on my potatoes though I rarely make mashed - more often potato salad and I get the small red or gold ones. More fiber with the skin on.

@DLM2000-GW I will have to try adding chicken sometime! I haven’t made the slaw in a while, now I’m wanting it.

As for grocery stores, there are 2 in my little town, I mostly use 1. We do have a few local produce markets and farm stands. I love those! My main produce market has a weekly truck come from Florida during the winter. Friends with a farm just recently opened the cutest little store on their property! Fresh eggs, organic coffee, local honey and jellies, etc. and bedt of all, she makes sourdough bread and some bakery type items! i love sourdough bread!!

There is an Aldis in one of the big cities near me but I’ve only been there a couple of times and it was just kind of meh. Could have been that particular store.

DLM, I do not know about Aldi’s location requirements, but its business model allows it to operate in lower-income urban neighborhoods, at least here in Chicago, that otherwise wouldn’t have access to grocery stores. They far exceed even Walmart stores.

A lot of good food for thought here. We don't really have a plan other than we both agree we're not stuck on aging in place if we decline to the point that doesn't make sense. Once I get all my house selling and moving done I'll start looking into that kind of a move. DH's grandmother was in a board and care home for many years after having a stroke and becoming bedridden. Nice family in their small town ran it. His mother was in a regular nursing home for eleven years after a series of mini-strokes and a broken hip made it impossible for her to stay at home with her DH. Again nice place in a small town. A couple who lived a couple doors down from us in an "age in place" detached town home absolutely refused to move when she developed serious mobility limitations. He had a variety of health problems and would have moved but she refused. It got very bad and finally their kids insisted they get out and they moved to a very nice assisted living facility. The Mr really liked all the social interaction at the new place. The Mrs hated it. He finally passed. She always thought he'd take care of her forever in their home and that she'd go first. Things definitely do not go as planned.

Sushi, I personally know a family who built an assisted living facility because they did not want an elderly relative living in one of the few available in our area. It was so profitable that they have since built a nursing care facility with a memory care wing and a rehab / step down wing. And a hospice. They all make money. 🤷‍♀️

I have no idea why the people who own assembled parcels of land near our gated community havent started building these!

They may need a CON (Certificate of Need) or the equivalent. CONs are not always easy to come by.

Don't even start........

Since I was about 15 I would say - in my next life, I'm not going to need glasses and I will have straight hair.

I did have lasik some 25 plus years ago. I used to straighten, wrap, you name it my hair to make it straight. Then I embraced the curls. The Curls are only a sometime thing because they get wild and crazy and not in a good way.

So I still have my order in for my next life with straight hair.

THE END.

Y‘all have inspired me. We got back from a trip to the beach this weekend. Before we put our suitcases away, we went through all the luggage. We were able to get rid of 5 large rolling duffle bags and an old suiter/garment bag. I’ve started going through my closet and have 3 black garbage bags of donations - so far.

I've never been other than walking in and out to a theater at the one in Florida for a business event. The closest I got to Disney as a kid was View Master's Disney reels. I thought that was great and I'm sure I viewed them a hundred times if not more. The thought of actually going there never crossed my mind since we never took family vacations. As an adult I'm not into fake, contrived places like Disney.

Disney is a hard no for me. I've never been there and never wanted to go. You couldn’t pay me to go. I just don't care for Disney. My kids have no interest in going either, though they do like amusement parks.

We took our kids to DW when they were young. What I remember most was the day when DH went off with DS1 and the camera and I was left with DS2 and no camera .A Disney staffer asked to borrow my son for a presentation. A troop dressed as soldiers of the American revolution presented DS2 with a scroll containing the Declaration of Independence. There was a huge crowd of spectators taking pictures of my son. Everyone had a camera except me! I didn't have the presence of mind to ask one of them to send me a copy of their picture.

What a waste for UHC to send out a bunch of stuff people are throwing away. Though I suppose there is some scheme for them to make money off of it.

Well, for those who don't dispose of the tests but instead use them and come up positive and are treated earlier that they would be otherwise, both the person and UHC benefit by not having to pay for a larger later stage problem.

@lucillle I just saw this old thread. The test never came. UHC is STILL sending us statements ONE YEAR after the care was administered. We have had Humana since January 1 2026.

I have no idea what is going on with their company. We never had such delinquent paperwork all the years we had UHC. They have definitely fallen on bad times with their bookkeeping lapsing to this degree. c

I used to keep some larger size jeans but my weight has been stable for probably 10 years so I finally got rid of them. My shape however is evolving with age so it's more about getting rid of stuff that doesn't fit the same as it used to. I never cared for skinny jeans so don't have that issue to deal with. I love jeans and have a lot of them but I seem to always wear my Talbots slim leg ankle jeans. I probably should get rid of some of the others that are just taking up space.

I have a couple pair of barrel jeans and really like them-you have to be built just right for them to look good, so they aren't attractive on a lot of people, IMO. They do not look good on short people-I am right on the cusp at being 5'4" and I am very picky if a style does not look good on me, I won't wear them. For instance, the baggy, longer shorts that are in style right now-do not look good on me, because they hit below the knee and they look horrible on me. Too bad, because I really love them on some other people!

I liked skinny jeans, but they are very dated now. I got rid of mine.

I know better to even attempt barrel pants, and I never wore skinny jeans for the same reasons. I can look at them and know they are just not going to flatter me. I don’t care if boot cuts are in or not, that’s what I wear. The best jeans are my jeans that are about 20 years old, Levis, Gap, etc.
