We asked Resene, one of the most trusted companies for wallcoverings and experts in predicting up-and-coming trends, to tell us what’s new in the world of wallpapers. Read on to find out four of the hottest new wallpaper trends around and be prepared to look at your walls in a whole new way.
1. Industrial Details
You may have noticed the trend for urban, loft-style living that’s been steadily growing, with plenty of industrial-style materials being introduced – everything from metal to concrete and stone. If you love the look and want to add some texture to your wall, then go for a wallcovering with a facetted pattern to it, or a design that emulates a material, such as stone, cement, brick or timber.
Why it Works: This style of wallpaper is not only extremely realistic but it makes a great feature wall, too. It’s also ideal for adding depth and architectural details to your property, which works especially wall in newer buildings.
Styling Tip: Instead of stopping at a picture rail or dado, why not take the wallpaper right up to the ceiling to make the textural details look more realistic?

2. Tropic Botanic
Foliage and fauna has never been a stronger look, with the emphasis on bringing nature indoors. We’ve seen the trend for indoor plants blossom and botanical prints boom – on everything from cushions to bed linen – and it was only a matter of time before those prints hit the walls. Plus, with so many patterns to choose from, wallpaper is an easy way to introduce that natural element to your home.
Why it Works: Whether you use tropical palm prints or banana ferns, you can choose a style and colour that’s right for you and it’s a great way to add impact and colour to your walls. Plus, if you don’t have a large outdoor space or simply want to bring some greenery inside, a vibrant botanical print is an easy way to inject some life into your home.
Styling Tip: Pair with other natural materials, such as jute, bamboo, seagrass and timber furniture and accessories. Plants, whether real or faux, will help add to the look and create a fresh botanical scheme that’s calming and natural.

3. Classic Florals
If you’re after a more feminine scheme, then this floral wallpaper trend could be the one for you. From beautiful wildflowers to delicate painterly-style blooms and bolder petal designs, there’s never been so much choice when it comes to floral wallpaper prints. Pick out a colour from the pattern in your wallpaper and match it with a paint for a complementary wall combo that’s a design classic.
Why it Works: Ideal for adding a traditional touch to your home, these papers are hugely versatile. Use them in a room with high ceilings and grandiose furniture for a smart and sophisticated look, or go for a country feel with rustic wood pieces and pretty pastel colourways.
Styling Tip: Keep a classic floral print looking current by teaming it with a quirky or eclectic accessory, artwork, light fitting or statement piece of furniture. Or, alternatively, why not use it to paper your ceiling – it is the fifth wall after all!

4. Geometric Texture
From stripes and 3D effects to bold repeated shapes, this trend is all about mixing pattern with texture in a new, and much more relaxed way. Choose a wallpaper in a colour you love and prepare for it to make a statement on your walls – if you’re brave enough, this trend will give your home an instant facelift.
Why it Works: The rhythmic structure of a repeated pattern is visually relaxing and you can add extra interest with the colourway or texture. It’s a great way of emphasising a particular area of your home, too, for standout style.
Styling Tip: Bold patterns are best kept to smaller areas if you’re worried about it overpowering a room, so try papering an alcove, a narrow wall or even a door in your chosen print.
