I did it and love it but it is a bit of a stretch if you are older or pregnant.

It's great for space saving but as already pointed out difficult for older people and pregnant women. If you have an alternative ie an ensuite with a stand alone shower this would give people the option.

Thanks - space is definitely at a premium. The walk in shower in the other bathroom would be for guests so if they're older/pregnant they should be ok. Was thinking the shower over bath would be primarily for the kids...

I had a great corner bath in my last home which was big enough to not need a shower screen (which really opened it all up. The room was 3x3m2. How big is your bathroom?

Do you need a shower in both rooms? Not a fan of shower in bath but we have to have it in our old house and it is actually less cleaning

Corner bath not really an option as keen to keep existing layout of fixtures - room is approx 2.5m x 3m - nice idea though! Yes definitely need the shower in both rooms, otherwise would definitely be going without. I'm not a huge fan of the shower in bath either but I think it makes sense in this instance. showers over baths can be dangerous, consider butting the bath against a wall and leaving space for a shower next to it- protect the rest of the bathroom with a glass screen- saw this in a hotel worked so well and the screen created depth to the room

I wish we had our old shower over garden tub from our first house. I hate our tiny separate shower with the eternally grungy glass door and grout, while not wheel chair accessible,a shower over a tub is not that hard for a pregnant lady.

Do you use the bath as a sit down? Try a shub instead of a full length bath.

At the risk of being seen as a downright snob (!), showers over baths are not found in 5 star hotels!
Much classier to find other storage possibilities... A hall cupboard for example rather than putting the shower over the bath. You might want to sell one day!

Hi Nic, I've been stuck with shower-over-baths in a few rentals and they can be slippery death traps! They also get grotty in summer with bare feet, post beach showers etc which limits usage as a bath anyway. If your kids are old enough I'd go for just a nice big shower area or a separate shower with a compact freestanding bath if you can fit one.

If your kids are little or the above won't work for you here's some tips to make a shower over bath safer and easy to use:
- Pick a bath with an absolutely flat bottom and anti slip texture at the shower end (those suction anti-slip mats are worse than useless).
- Position the shower screen so that you can step straight onto the anti slip part.
- Make sure the bath edge is low enough for the kids to enter end exit easily.
- A hand held shower head that can move up and down would be a nice addition.
