Bathroom + Laundry Layout
We are looking at renovating our laundry and bathroom, it’s already awkward as the laundry comes off the living area which you have to walk through to enter the bathroom. Currently due to the layout of the living area it’s not feasible to have seperate entries.
First pic is the current layout. Second pic is roughly what we’re thinking, converting entrance door to a barn door, knocking out the seperate toilet to have more light (there is a large window in the current seperate toilet) and a long bench space in the laundry. Adding the seperate toilet back into the current bathroom space then looking to keep bath / shower / vanity +/- second toilet in the bathroom. The bay window kills me but all our visitors seem to love it so will probably retain but will have to look at improving the privacy somehow too?!
Would love opinions / new eyes as I can’t think of a better layout!

The bathroom and laundry both need gutting - all the fixtures and fittings, tiles and ceiling all need replacing and I suspect there is water damage in the wall behind the shower.
The bay window (1450mm at its narrowest point x approx 750mm deep) currently has this weird tiled ‘shelf’ in it with the built in bath (1500mm) in front of it (see first pic).
Ideally I’d like to retain a 1500mm size bath, happy to downgrade to a single basin vanity for more bench space and wondering if two toilets in such close proximity is worth it (we have 3 young kids and these are the only toilets so currently good for us but ??resale in future). Wondering if a layout like the second pic but flipped so they bath end would sit in the bay window space with a ‘wet area’ might work?

If it was my space, I'd switch the bathroom and the laundry room around, keeping just one of the walls currently enclosing the toilet. Comments (10)A small sink would fit in the second floor plan w/c. its 2.8mx 1.4m so definitely enough room. If we use the last floor plan with separate w/c then it opens up the bathroom to be 2.7mx 3.2m which for New Zealand standards is a big bathroom for a shower, bath and vanity. 6 years agoby choosing a different shaped bath without the wide ledge and building further inside the bay there should be a better fit, even if the bath still projects enough to allow for framing, but careful research should find a much better fitting bath.... i think a freestanding bath needs more gap to fit well ... i can't see how rotating the bath would be better and a better fit will make better use of the bay window and a wet area shower needs more length to avoid being too wet
and a custom 1800 long bench top in a shorter vanity with one basin would allow for an open space under the counter for a clothes basket- 6 years ago
