Floor replacement issues

We have a 30 year old home that needed the old tile and carpet floors replaced. We decided on 600x600 rectified lappato tile for the main areas and a wood look vinyl for the family and main bedroom.

The tilers is now approaching the end of the job, .However, we have noticed several things that we are not happy. When we take it up with the with tiler is brushes aside our issues saying that everything is ok..

Our first concern is how easy the tiles seem to scratch. The tiles and retailer have assured us that the tiles are the toughest Grade 4 standard. However, on the box all I can see is ”1 st grade“ and “Made in China”. There is no brand on neither the boxes of tiles nor the vinyl wood. this concerns me as professionally I have had very bad experience with quality variations with both equipment and bulk food that I have purchased from China. Does anyone know where I can get my spare tiles laboratory scratch tested?

Our second problem is related to poor laying.

The attached photo shows a small piece of the vinyl wood that has been placed in a major walkway . It is very obvious to anyone who walks through. It looks like a laying fault to me. But can I get the tiler to replace it and the planks that are affected?

The workmanship looks ok from the very small sample provided.

What were you expecting to be done to avoid the small section? Move the other light grey section back along, if so the layout should have been discussed upfront.

Was the layout discussed at all?

If you get the testing what are you hoping to achieve?

Personally I would never recommend anyone use vinyl/engineered flooring. Want real timber use real timber, plenty love their vinyl laminated etc floors but I just don't see the point.....

HI Emily Carpeting bedrooms is only dictated by your budget. The only variable is the price of the carpet, all other costs (installation, smoothedge, underlay) will be the same no matter what you choose. When you say remove wooden floors....do you know what is already installed? If you are only wanting to take the wood from the bedrooms but leave it in hallways etc, then the cost to remove wood planks (laminate?) may be around $20 per m2... A lot depends on how the timber was installed, so I think it's best to get in a professional and get a free quote. Good luck.

@kmkane... The "old thread" comments, at least from ME... aren't for any other reason than letting some contributors know, that the advice they might believe they are giving, may be moot. I know that when I 1st became involved on Houzz, I was glad when someone indicated that I may be addressing a question which had probably been answered months (if not years) ago. Helped me "learn" to check the original posting date before blathering on about an issue someone was no longer interested in.

Replace a wood floor with a concrete floor?

Do you want to keep the wood floor? It is rare to see wood floors as garage floors. I've seen homes like this moved onto pour basement slabs (same concept as pile foundation...but with a basement instead of dirt. If you want to keep the wood, then there has to be a way to keep the wood off of the concrete. An 18" crawl space (dirt covered with 6mil poly sheeting or cement) is always an option. The 18" crawl space would have to be cross vented/heated properly. This is for "keeping" the wood. Flooring. I'm not sure what has to be done to remove the wood floor and have the building sit (joists and all) on concrete. Remove the joists and you have plenty of stability problems. You would need to speak with a local architect/building engineer who has some knowledge of what you are trying to do, soil conditions, etc. to get this right. In theory it can be done (we've just landed a small car on a comet...we should be able to put an old building on a cement slab)...I'm wondering about the expense to get it there (excavation + soil stabilization + concrete + piles, etc).
