front door paint help

I am wanting to paint the timber door and frame and change hardware to an antique brass. The floors will be changed but at a later time. I love a heritage style. Paint on wall is antique white usa which is a touch too creamy for me. I am thinking a black gloss door or colorbond woodland grey (this is the exterior trim of house). Firsly, do I paint door and frame the same colour or just door and make the frame match the walls. For the walls (and or frame) go a bright white or stay in the warm whites (thinking natural white as its warm but not as creamy). Any help appreciated!!!.

Paint entire door, side panels and frames in woodland grey. It will blend nicely with the slate tiles.

Natural white or SMQ. for walls. Paint whole door ensemble the one colour of your preference.#

Thank you so much for your comment after all this time. The colour you have suggested brightens the front door area beautifully and if the two red pots were painted in a tone to match, we think it would look great. Not sure if you can get Crestview doors in New Zealand but there must be something similar. We like the idea of going away from another cedar door - mainly because it would stand out too much while it was weathering. I don't know whether we would have been that brave but the tangerine works so well with the jade green of the joinery. I have re-laid all the stones and put a new wider front step in. The timber colour will soften down in time. I put a big pot in the garden to draw visitors to the front door and have added some colourful bromeliads to the garden alongside the house to make the area a bit more cheerful. We can't make a decision about what to do with a larger 'overhang' to protect the front porch yet - it is a project in progress. Thanks again for your post.

Not yet. We actually have JUST engaged an architect to draw up an older school house we are hoping to purchase and use as an addition onto the left hand side of the house. Obviously if that purchase goes through, we will hire the architect to work on both the connection of the new building to the house as well as the front entryway. Here is the floor plan of the house. The small bedroom (bedroom 4) sits directly behind the lounge. We are also thinking about removing part of the wall there so that you would walk into the home and see directly into the lounge or turn slightly right and enter the kitchen.

I once saw a gorgeous grey house with a chartreuse door and lots of purple plants in the front of the house. Wouldn't work my (horrible) salmon pink house (one day it will be painted) but since you have the grey might be worth considering?

I'd like a picture of the entire front of your house , including the front door .

Having said that , from those two inside shots , I'd tend to think a crisp white paint for the surround ( including around the windows ) BUT leave the door in that stained tone . Okay , if it has weathered , them maybe sand back and restain and revarnish etc , but it is a natural timber door , I assume it works in with your outside decor and materials -- paint is what you use to hide stuff -- why hide the door when it looks like that ? Change for changes sake doesn't achieve much IMO -- you do it if it will improve your house , and I'm sceptical whether it will . . . . . .

The timber door adds warmth & compliments your beautiful timber table imho. Would a crisp white door cool the room & make the stone floor look cold? Try pinning up white paper to see?
