Your inspiration pic kitchen has gigantic windows with generous natural lighting. Yours does not. If you were to add dark wood cabinets to your kitchen it would be a cave.

I think they did a rather good job with the 90s redo. It looks much more authentically 60s and 70s than your inspiration pic.

I adore your ceiling and floors. I'd get custom solid wood doors (are those pantry doors?) made and stained to match the ceiling.

Where is the cooktop? Can you post pics of the adjoining rooms?

If they are in good shape, keep the ceiling and cork tile floors. Replace the cabinets and counter tops, as well as the louvered doors (to what?). Your inspiration photo is very beautiful, and you could get that look in your room.

I agree with Kendrah, what you have looks more 60's and 70's, than the inspiration picture does. I would leave it. Once you get your things in there, and some 60's 70's accessories, it will look very nice.

i have managed to obtain The original kitchen photo from owner who built the home and have attached, in new zealand the current kitchen is very dated and 90s and we really like the current trend of mid century modern and think it will be a good style for the home … my worry is the colour of the ceiling and floor wood colour with the cabinetry …. i have also attached the kitchen looking the other way … i would like to change louvre doored pantry and oven tower to underbench so more bench space for entertaining and preparation.

show an overhead graph paper outline of the spaces surrounding your kitchen. You have a VERY narrow kitchen. its worth considering where it is possible to widen out. Cant tell about that from your pictures. If you have budgeted funds and the space overall/ with imagination/ willingness you can have the MCM theme but bring it forward to this era. I wouldnt be so purist with re--creating the past considering the Narrow footprint.

the MCM kitchen functions like a galley shown here..but the movement in and out of the space is improved so people arent trapped in a narrow closed end of space. you have to think of all these things if you are spending money and getting this set for the next 30 years.

‘Recently purchased’ -??? So, have you cooked and entertained with this kitchen? Make sure the layout is good for you before worrying about the ‘style’. If the layout works for you then I also agree that it will be too much brown and cave like IF you keep your floors and ceiling and IF you have the lone window. I’d be curious to see the whole floor plan and pics of adjoining spaces. I have to imagine that little pass through window has better possibilities.

I think youre ceiling and floor are a treasure. There are tons of ways to enhance with paint and lighting. You might try looking for paint that has a high light quality that will compliment the natural light you have a lot of. Consulting a color cordinator might do you well also.
