Yes, I agree the WIR has wasted space. Maybe something like this. Creating a walk in shower. 2000mm long with a 1200mm shower screen. Toilet in same position. Cavity door in same position. But moving the vanity to BIR area. Creating a vanity with cupboard storage on the same wall. And create a corner BIR. Just a single cavity sliding door into the wardrobe/ vanity area.

Are the hallway BIC’s, able to become part of the bedroom wardrobe area?

A true walk in shower ( with no door) needs a 1200mm screen to stop water spray into adjoining areas. Would you be happy with a larger shower, but with a door?

Ah ok. Yes, a larger shower is what I am hoping for! I find the square shapes feel a bit boxed in, especially with a corner cut-off…

Okay, something like this, with a door into the shower and a sliding door, not cavity door, into ensuite. Install corner shelving in WIR to remove wasted space.

Your space is 2000mm or 1960mm, not sure which way. Working with 2000mm, toilet comes out 700mm, vanity out 550mm. This leaves 750mm. Yes it is tight. Your ensuite room is not big so a compromise may have to be found regarding shower recess.

You could have a 1200mm to 1500mm length shower recess, with a door, and the vanity in the corner, the same as your original plan posted. Again, depends on what width vanity you want.?

Or this way. Which would not require a corner cut off in your shower recess.

the proposed wiw plan is labelled as 1800 x 1800 ie square but the plan shows a rectangular??.. please confirm size of proposed wiw, ens and pwdr ignoring all built ins and also include plans for all the surrounding rooms including dimensions.

You could also swap the spaces.

You’re using a lot of space by having the WIR walk through and ending up with less hanging/clothes space than a built-in. What’s on the other side of the powder room, a sliding door would enable the powder room to be smaller with the space added to the ensuite. The L shape WIR is a much better idea or move the walk through part to the bottom of your pics to allow U shaped cabinet

Bigreader, the powder room opens onto the hallway. Trying to reuse existing feature doors (period home) to stay consistent with the other doors off the hallway.

If it’s not a privacy problem you can still use a period door for a cavity slider. I re-used a solid door for a bathroom slider inc the door handle (door didn’t fully retract) The door fitted with the standard cavity frame. Bonus is period doors are generally solid and good for privacy.

Alex, the separate WIR and ensuite look good. Also changing the powder room toilet position. However, you can not have a walk in shower with that width. It will need a door.

BUT. Alex, the length of the current WIR robe is say 500mm shelving 1800m open space, 500mm shelving. This adds to 2800mm. If you take 1500mm for the ensuite. This only leaves less than 1300mm for a WIR. This will only allow one row of hanging not two. 500mm depth hanging at least and 800 standing space, which is tight.

Good point, won’t be enough space to move in the wardrobe. I could maybe use some narrow cupboards as non hanging instead on that wall but would probably have to take more of the linen space to increase hanging…

Another option. Can you share more of the floor plan. Would be good to see whole bedroom

Life is a series of compromises. With this layout you have some usable wall space in bedroom double vanity and walk in shower and generous powder room which I love at my place especially with little kids. You can add some more narrow storage say shoes in wir and maybe a dresser in bedroom

Alex are there any existing windows and any current plumbing. Is the bedroom space approx 3 m deep from door and 4m across and is there an existing robe

what is the size of the bedroom that this new ensuite and WIR become part of?

Hello Alex, For what it is worth I really liked the first plan: the extra space in the robe is great for changing and the ensuite is fine. BUT Kate's plan with the shower and toilet with the separate db basins is great too. with the robe in that plan I would suggest a long mirror at the far end and two straight runs of hanging and shelving so there are NO DEAD CORNERS! That would be great and better again. The vanity, loo and shower can be 1.400 wide leaving 1.5 (minus wall) for the robe. And on the hall side that's good for a pwd room at say 1m wide with a small vanity on the door hinge side. That leaves one meter by 1.5 deep for a step in linen cupboard. deep and not very wide but it could work especially if you think about a slide out door with shelves on it! Cheers Margot
