Colour drenching

Hello Houzz community,

This family home built and decorated in the 1970s is looking for an update.

It is my friends old family home and they are the sentimental about the wall paper (left side) and not wanting to cover the brick work just at the moment.

Am thinking a colour drenching approach may be the solution. They are open to painting the arched wall and and the ceiling. The carpet has already been ripped up and there is a black/cream rug is an option but not a deal breaker.

Otherwise it is a big, west facing room, with high ceilings , west facing and in a temperate climate.

It is a bit of a challenge, hey and beyond my ability to solve.

Thanks in advance for any colour inspo and looking forward to your innovative ideas.

What problem are you trying to solve? What colours were you thinking? What is the intended look for the whole house? I love Spanish mission style ( there are beautiful examples here on Houzz and also on Pintrest) so I’d do a paint refresh with a warm white and decorate in that style.

You can pop image into chat got and ask it to make changes. If u r not subscribed it will do I think 5 images a day. So work out some scenarios like paint brick wall on right side the same colour as back wall and update furniture and rug to modern Keep varying instructions and then take images to client. Colour is personal. They should have final say.

If your friends want to keep the wallpaper, I think they should consider painting the brickwork the same as the walls as it makes the room too dark and dated. Just an opinion, but as it is now, wallpapered wall and brickwork clash. Either one or the other.
