Corner Windows
Pacific Peninsula Group 4/23/14 Hi - thanks for looking at this photo. It's one of my favorites. These windows came from the manufacturer, Bend River. They are located in Oregon.
Peter McDonald Architect 12/29/12 They were 30" wide. But when choosing windows you can't just pick an arbitrary width. You choose the width in relation to the spacing between cabinets, and in relation to the other windows on the house and to keep a consistent proportion of muntin arrangement. Note that the upper 4 light sash creates 4 almost perfectly square glass panes - similar in proportion to the large square glass below and the 2 others above. Changing the width, height and muntin pattern could have made those panes into rectangles upright or on their sides. We chose the squares in this case to match the other windows we put in this house and to match the style of the overall house design.
Peter McDonald Architect 11/12/12 We used 6" of framing between each window with a special detail so the would be room for an outlet between each window. In that way we were able to get the window sills low to the counter and hence a more open and well lit feeling there.
Cool!
