Kitchen
Marble, black/charcoal cabinets (lower level only) & natural wood floor all work well, but don't like the subway tiled walls or open suspended shelving. Black light fittings make a change & also serve to tie the cabinetry to the top level of the room. Black wall oven unifies (what have they done with dishwasher & fridge colour?). Wall tiles go to ceiling, but full-length black cupboards have small white bulkhead above to contain & unify. Dual windows, or window & glass door give light & space. Like placement of fridge & wall oven together, with same-depth overhead cupboards & pull-out narrow storage cupboard all in one 'block', whereas the rest of the kitchen is broken up in space & structure - this lends balance & lightness to the room.
Far too minimalist, & don't like lack of natural light, but semi-matt, handle-less cabinetry, concealed benchtop lighting & wall oven are all nice touches. Floorboards lend warmth & life. End wall would work better in a contrasting colour. Ceiling light is annoying. Splashback needs textural definition.
Clever use of horizontal & vertical lines; warmth of timber cabinetry; full-length narrow window between benchtop & overhead cabinets. Don't like colour of floor - needs more playful colour. Wouldn't have subway tiles for splashback or stainless steel appliances. Like clean lines where cabinetry meets walls & ceiling which are uniform in colour, as is the benchtop. The subtle space created between the outer carcass of the upper cupboards & the cupboard doors is an elegant & unifying touch. I would rather have large lower drawers rather than cupboards, so the accomplishment of horizontal & vertical lines may be harder to achieve.
Here the light/dark contrast is reversed from that in previous example (i.e. lighter colours on floor & lower cabinetry & darker splashbacks, appliances &benchtops). Which works better? ( I think dark on the bottom gives a lighter & more spacious effect). Don't like rangehood & handles would annoy me.
Clean lines; feature floor with elegant Classical pattern in subtle colour palette; light bouncing off cabinetry, giving senses of space; wall oven; placement of oven, sink, cooktop; bulkhead to ceiling (no architrave); uniform monochrome cabinetry, ceiling with subtle difference in benchtops; deep cabinets at the end, with recessed overhead cupboards elsewhere; smooth lines without handles; large drawers (rather than cupboards) would be preferable on lower level. Not sure about splashbacks - possibly needs either textural or colour contrast (- to tie in with floor colours: pale grey or charcoal?).
Contrasting ceiling heights to define spaces. Kitchen cabinetry finishes - colour scheme. window wall & long narrtow widow in kitchen.
