Here's my take on a black and white kitchen with subway tile... obviously not a strict take on it. Our subway tile is oversized with a kind of wrinkled fabric look to it, we went with a white grout, it wasn't standard white though. Our perimeter countertop is leathered steel grey granite, depending on the lighting it ranges from a medium grey to a charcoal grey. (I love this countertop!) My hubby designed and built all of the cabinetry, he sprayed it with BM's Advance paint in chantilly lace. (The island cabinetry is sprayed in Kendall Charcoal, we did our best to match our range) The knobs and pulls are a dark charcoal color with a stone like texture... we found them at Menards of all places and they feel nice and substantial, we think they blend with the countertop beautifully. Obviously we brought a lot of wood into the kitchen with the walnut island waterfall top and piece above the range hood. Eventually we would like to have the floors stained a different color, but that will have to wait for now. I'd like to go with a more medium brown color.
Our kitchen project was a complete gut job, DIY. We did pay for the granite perimeter counter to be fabricated and installed, but the rest was completely my hubby's work. (Except we also paid to have the behemoth range installed, but that was only because it was so heavy and there's no way to get into our house without navigating stairs and dh didn't trust himself to maneuver it with just our teen boys to help.) Hubby and I worked together to design the space, houzz was very helpful as I gathered ideas!
