I kinda like this look too. It's very different. Looks eclectic but traditional with modernization. Does that even make sense? But I like it. It has the glass tiles Eric likes, I like the wood cabinets with the painted island, you have a hood with a cabinet.. You could slightly change the color of the wood cabinets to compliment the flooring you want and I think having the wood cabinets that match the stone from your fireplace would tie everything together and look really cool and different.

This has some nice ideas. Wasn't sure what cabinets would look like above stove/range but I don't think this looks bad and gives you more cabinet space and you have your down draft vent. I like the glass doors on the top. I also like how the refridge matches the cabinets - flows nicely. I would not do a two level island. I would just make it all level and you could wrap an overhang with the counter for more seating on the right (changing what they did)

The black island would tie your hutch into space, you've got the glass door cabinets on top and I think the hood is different - nice touch to bring the darker island in.

This looks nice also. Notice the cabinet on the top with the glass doors. Refrigerator is separate - kind of like what you guys want to do.

I don't think this island looks too big. The stone is a nice compliment since you have stone in your family room. I also like the combo of the wood and painted cabinets. The wood ties into the stone and the painted cabinets add some color.
