Whilst looks ate important functionality is key so you are right to question your choice. Your plumber can advise further. But mine said tap needs to reach over the plug whole. Tap should not obstruct you when you lean over to wash face, rinse mouth, wash hands etc. splatter would be reduced by a higher bowl but it is about the bowl depth and the water flow rate, which can be turned down by your plumber on commissioning the tap. Also consider if it will obstruct opening if a cabinet door on wall. Good luck
