I like how the bump out on the walls and ceiling, along with the bookshelf and sunken area, creates a clear separation of space, while keeping the floor plan open.

Interesting application of a rain screen like finish for an interior pillar; makes it feel like a piece of furniture, and gracefully covers up the presence of the pillar.

This faux wall is an interesting way to define the space while not leaving a claustrophobic hallway. If you must have a hallway, and it's not alongside a room that necessitates privacy, this is a great way of handling it.

The outcrop with the drop ceiling, inset lighting and accent color is a nice way to make a nook feel like a tightly integrated part of the design.

Beautiful walnut sleigh bed! I also really like the floating concrete accent wall, which I assume provides a provide dressing area near the closet.

I love the stacked bluestone with stained cedar ceiling. And the reading nook with built-in storage is fantastic. All around an interesting installation with the fireplace nook, recessed lighting and built-in wardrobe.

I love floating fireplaces in general, but really like this approach of using it as a divider within a bedroom. Of course, I'd want a gas insert so this could be used frequently and easily :).

I like having the bar built into a nook in the barrier. It helps define the space, likely hides a pillar, and provides a functional use of space. I also think having the ledge with hidden lighting works well as a tie between rooms.

This is pretty fancy, but it works well. The textured wall with the accent lights hidden behind the faux wall is a nice touch, and makes the water feature feel recessed.

The problem with being married to an academic? Never having enough bookshelves. I imagine our next house will need to have a built-in library. I like that the floating bookshelves no only store books, but also help define the space. I also like how they are attached to the exposed rafters.

I like the exposed rafters, concrete scaffolding and floor-to-ceiling windows.

While this isn't generally my style, the high ceilings, skylights, clearstory windows and reclaimed wood make this a really beautiful space. Also, what an amazing fireplace!

I like how the wood continues from the inside to the outside soffits. This works really well with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The Telluride gold quartz application is lovely. I also find the catwalk above the kitchen interesting: it opens up the hallway, and provides a taller vaulted ceiling.

While I'm not crazy about this kitchen, I think the cabinetry that extends into a shelf and then frames the refrigerator is a really nice touch. I also like the blue enamel cabinets.

Interesting variety of textures and colors. What I like the most about this, however, is that it takes a hallway and makes it feel like a gallery; warm, inviting, not just a place to pass quickly through.
