The combination of plants on the left is hard to beat--lush, healthy, beautiful colors of foliage (gray-green, green, chartreuse, and purple) as well as blooms (peach, purple, white).

These Italian cypress (if that is what they are) would be okay used sparingly. I think the upright shrub in the far back is a Choisya ternata (Mexican Orange) that does well with part shade/part sun areas that we have in many parts of our yard. Without the giant hedge behind the Italian cypress, and adding different heights of shrubs/perennials, could this be an option for along our back fence?
