Bands. Plantings confined to long, narrow beds form bands in the landscape. A bit like choosing vertical or horizontal stripes for a sweater, planting bands can visually stretch a landscape, making narrow lots seem wider when bands run across the yard. When placed to run along an axis line, bands draw one’s eye to the end of the garden or to a viewpoint. Bands are also useful as edges for larger planting beds.
Accent colors. For a room with a unique personality, adding an accent color to the ceiling infuses a lot of drama in an unexpected spot. I won’t lie: As a DIY task, painting the ceiling is not nearly as easy as painting a wall, and even for professionals it usually requires the room be fully emptied first. So, it’s best to be absolutely sure that you love a hue before applying it to the “fifth wall.” The upside is that the ceiling is often a relatively small surface area, meaning that splash of color is a more controlled dose than painting the walls.

The front gate is cleverly designed to double as a vertical planter for drought-tolerant succulents. Greening every spare inch of space like this is a sustainable approach that is common in many densely populated European cities and is catching on in Australia and New Zealand.
Create a pinch point to home in on a sightline. This idea works for gardens of nearly any size and isn’t dependent on having a stunning vista. By narrowing the view, you can more clearly direct a viewer’s gaze just where you want it and emphasize a focal point. Place a pair of midsize structural evergreen plants — like clipped boxwoods, pittosporum or privet — on either side of a sightline. You can do the same with walls, hedges or fences. In this Mediterranean-style garden, two mature boxwoods framing the path help define the sightline to the cafe table set on the terrace.Find a landscape designer on Houzz
If you're going to go through the trouble of removing your downspouts to replace them with a rain chain, you might as well take it to the next level and enhance the area where the rain settles. Some stacked rocks or a ceramic pot with a hole drilled through the bottom looks great and helps the rain make its way into the ground.

7. Wheeled bins. The builders of this laundry room worked in ample counter space and large wheeled bins, which is a great way to protect your back from not having to bend and lift a heavy hamper. The wallpaper in this laundry brings an added dose of joy to the space while staying within a neutral color palette.
