This week, Australia’s most beautiful horticultural designs were crowned at the 2023 Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show, the fifth-largest garden show in the world. The awards recognise some of the country’s best garden and plant experts and are replete with great ideas for everyday homeowners. Here we share the winners with you. Enjoy.

‘The Container Garden’ with Richgro by Charlie Albone.

The prestigious City of Melbourne Award of Excellence for Best in Show was awarded to Charlie Albone of Inspired Exteriors for ‘The Container Garden’.

A homage to outdoor living that features two recycled shipping containers and an upstairs terrace, Albone’s display was also recognised with a Gold Show Garden Award and the Horticultural Media Association Award for best use of plant life.

“This year, we are thrilled to present the biggest program in the Show’s 26-year history with a spectacular showcase of breathtaking landscape and floral designs from some of the most renowned horticultural experts. The calibre of creations across all categories is second to none and we extend our greatest congratulations and thanks to all involved,” said event director, Marcus Gale.

‘Aurum’ by MINT Pool + Landscape Design.

Tied in first place for the Gold Show Garden Award was ‘Aurum’ by Darin Bradbury and Scott Wynd of MINT Pool + Landscape Design. Their creation was also bestowed with the Mark Bence Construction Award and Innovative Design Award.

‘Bam Stone Garden’ by Peter Donegan Garden Design.

‘The Bam Stone Garden,’ designed by renowned landscape architect Peter Donegan from Ireland, was also awarded a Gold Show Garden Award.

The recipient of the Silver Gilt Show Garden Award was ‘Consciousness’ designed by Nadia Cole of Platylobium Landscape Design.

This year, the judges awarded a four-way tie for the Silver Show Garden Award. The four gardens include this one, named ‘Lunaria Pods,’ and designed by Inge Jabara Landscapes.

This garden, named ‘Villa Di Lusso’ and designed by Renee Reiter of Invidia Landscapes, was also honoured with a Silver Show Garden Award.

‘Alone, Together’, designed by Matt York of Budling Design was presented with the Bronze Show Garden Award.
