The Powder room off the kitchen in a Mid Century modern home built by a student of Eichler. This Eichler inspired home was completely renovated and restored to meet current structural, electrical, and energy efficiency codes as it was in serious disrepair when purchased as well as numerous and various design elements being inconsistent with the original architectural intent of the house from subsequent remodels.

This was a very small bathroom that we wanted to make a big impact. The client loves color so we went with a clean blue/teal/white combination of cement tile floor and glass accent tile with porcelain shower tiles.

Jack and Jill bathroom

The main floor bathroom also features bold color and pattern with a blue penny round flooring and patterned cement tiles. The black fixtures and vanity make this main floor bathroom a more modern space.

Drawing inspiration from artist Josef Albers, Oh Joy! managed to create a guest bathroom that’s a work of art itself. 4x4 glossy Glass Tile in Snowy Owl, Warbler, Kingfisher, and Magpie are arranged in an abstract striped and color-blocked pattern with a polka-dot floor of custom Handpainted Fallow Tile flowing from the shower throughout this one-of-a-kind bathroom guests won’t soon forget. These hall bathrooms get a fresh facelift with light colored modern cabinetry in a white textured wood grain laminate. A marble look quartz compliments the tones of the blue, grey and warm taupe mosaic tile. These hues are picked up in the textured vintage looking floor tile. Modern sconces frame a lift up Robern mirrored medicine cabinet.

This new build architectural gem required a sensitive approach to balance the strong modernist language with the personal, emotive feel desired by the clients. Taking inspiration from the California MCM aesthetic, we added bold colour blocking, interesting textiles and patterns, and eclectic lighting to soften the glazing, crisp detailing and linear forms. With a focus on juxtaposition and contrast, we played with the ‘mix’; utilising a blend of new & vintage pieces, differing shapes & textures, and touches of whimsy for a lived in feel.
