Country House Renovation & Decoration

The interior design of this country home for the chairman of a record company and his wife presented two distinct challenges. The couple traveled so much that they were able to visit the house only a few times between the beginning and completion of the project. And although the house was relatively new and had a lot of curb appeal the previous owners had cut so many corners on the construction that what initially looked like a purely cosmetic job required replacement of the bannister in this room as well as basic systems like the boiler, the hot water tank, and the pump for the well. Since the project required substantial construction and our clients would not be available to approve and pay the contractor’s bills, they established a checking account upon which we could draw as needed. We presented monthly reports to their accountant concerning all expenses. The desk placed in front of the window takes advantage of a lovely view. The pine paneling, color palate and deep sofas contribute to a feeling of warmth and comfort. The end table between the sofas is actually a large pottery planter topped with a thick circle of rough slate.
