Situated on either side of the central room of the first floor are an eat-in kitchen and master bedroom. The kitchen opens onto a screen porch with glass doors. Behind the black Lacanche stove is a 3D tile panel separating two recessed spice cabinets with paneled doors. The table and chairs face a fireplace and a paneled wall of floor to ceiling built in pantry cabinets. Photo: Tim Street-Porter

Create Good Sinks' 46" workstation sink (5LS46c) with two "Ardell" faucets from our own collection. This 16 gauge stainless steel undermount sink replaced the dinky drop-in prep sink that was in the island originally. The oversized, single basin sink with two tiers lets you slide cutting boards and other accessories along the length of the sink. Midnight Corvo matte black quartz counters.

KITCHEN. When our client purchased this property, it had been in the previous owners family for 200 years. This meant that despite generous room sizes, the interior was very dated. One of the most dramatic changes was the removal of a half-height brick wall which originally divided the kitchen into two spaces. New parquet flooring was installed in the kitchen and the old, heavy wooden windows were also removed and replaced by crittall style black framed windows. The property was then redecorated throughout using dramatic wallpapers and strong colours to compliment the client's eclectic style.

This 1960s split-level home desperately needed a change - not bigger space, just better. We removed the walls between the kitchen, living, and dining rooms to create a large open concept space that still allows a clear definition of space, while offering sight lines between spaces and functions. Homeowners preferred an open U-shape kitchen rather than an island to keep kids out of the cooking area during meal-prep, while offering easy access to the refrigerator and pantry. Green glass tile, granite countertops, shaker cabinets, and rustic reclaimed wood accents highlight the unique character of the home and family. The mix of farmhouse, contemporary and industrial styles make this house their ideal home. Outside, new lap siding with white trim, and an accent of shake shingles under the gable. The new red door provides a much needed pop of color. Landscaping was updated with a new brick paver and stone front stoop, walk, and landscaping wall. Project Photography by Kmiecik Imagery.

When these clients told us they had a telephone booth they wanted to incorporate into their kitchen design, we knew they would be ready and willing to take risks. We love this tavern-inspired kitchen and all of its bold character.
