Converted from an existing Tuff Shed garage, the Beech Haus ADU welcomes short stay guests in the heart of the bustling Williams Corridor neighborhood. Natural light dominates this self-contained unit, with windows on all sides, yet maintains privacy from the primary unit. Double pocket doors between the Living and Bedroom areas offer spatial flexibility to accommodate a variety of guests and preferences. And the open vaulted ceiling makes the space feel airy and interconnected, with a playful nod to its origin as a truss-framed garage. A play on the words Beach House, we approached this space as if it were a cottage on the coast. Durable and functional, with simplicity of form, this home away from home is cozied with curated treasures and accents. We like to personify it as a vacationer: breezy, lively, and carefree.

Someone who we work with regularly is Lucinda Sanford, a fantastic interior designer based in London. She first contacted us in late 2013 to see if we could help her with a project in Gilstead Road. As you walk in through the front door of the property you enter the hallway which leads off into the rest of the house. To give the illusion of space in this narrow hallway Lucinda asked us to design, manufacture and install two bespoke internal steel windows to give a sneak preview of the stunning family room which sits adjacent to the hallway. As you can see from the pictures the black of the steel frames really fits well with the deep red of the room. In keeping with this design style Lucinda also asked us to install a set of bespoke central double doors in the entrance to the family room. Lucinda was keen to keep this style of bespoke steel framed windows and doors running throughout the property wherever possible and asked us to also design, manufacture and install a set of bespoke French doors at the rear of the property. We installed a single right-hand side door with fixed screens and fanlights above. This feature really allowed natural light to flood the kitchen diner which, with no other space for additional windows, could’ve otherwise been quite a dark space. Our work paired with Lucinda’s keen eye for detail and style really suited this property and it was the beginning of our working relationship which has continued to grow ever since. This open kitchen is simply dazzling. Sure, the transparency of the wine cellar and the huge windows contribute very strongly to the bright light over the room, but our designers have clearly shown the ability to balance all this clarity in order to give a warm touch to the complete package. The kitchen cabinets are mostly made of MDF with white lacquer finish. We can feel the purity and the lightness in the room as we pass through the entrance door. The atmosphere was complimented by the addition of rich and warm walnut wood. The great center island, made of Corian, is an extremely practical material, this major piece definitely gives a fresh look and an urban design to this modern kitchen. This dream kitchen was finished off with quartz countertop and a quartz backsplash.

You also want to consider colour and finishes of cabinets, countertops and splashbacks. Which colour do you want your cupboards to be? Simple, timeless white or rather making a statement in black? You could also go for an all-white look and choose black appliances for contrast. Once you know which style you fancy, don’t forget how you will be using the space.
