Les clients souhaitaient apporter de la lumière a leur pièce de vie, mais surtout ouvrir et aérer l'espace. Nous avons fait abattre deux murs, dont un porteur, pour que la baie vitrée de la cuisine fasse entrer toute la lumière. Nous avons créer un îlot en réutilisant une partie du mobilier existant que nous avons moderniser avec des meubles en laque mate anthracite. Nous avons changé le sol de la cuisine et avons posé le nouveau parquet en chêne massif en diagonale dans l'espace salle à manger. Toujours dans cet esprit de gagner en luminosité, nous avons fabriqué sur mesure une baie type atelier qui sépare la cuisine du salon. Dans notre quête du soucis du détail nous avons peint la poutre acier de la même couleur que la structure de la baie type atelier. Clin d’œil pour le rangement, nous avons créer 3 petites niches dans la colonne technique de l'îlot. Les clients sont ravis de pouvoir y recharger leurs téléphones ou tablettes.

Removal of the walls that separated a once tiny kitchen from the dining room was like that feeling of relief when you unbutton those far too tight pants at the end of the day. It opened up the core of the house, let the daylight flood in, and provided a desired social connection between the cooking, dining, and entertaining experience, plus views to the front yard. One step towards achieving historic status to even apply for the MILS act - all the windows were replaced and returned back to their wood frame glory, and a previously modified window was returned back to it's orginal glass door and window configuration with direct access to the front porch. Existing harwood floors were patched and refinished, structural beams and footings were added as required, and all well worth the effort. The coveted island/ "command station" features a natural quartzite countertop, farmhouse sink, beautiful hand-painted tile, and uber comfortable counter height stools - perfectly proportioned to where the seat back will never get dinged up against the stone top and can tuck completely under the countertop when not in use. Tall, flanking pantries are convenient for everyday items, and deep lower drawers house all the necessities a home chef wants within arms reach.

A MOROCCAN INSPIRED KITCHEN The kitchen was inspired by the rich Moroccan blue back splash tile Homeowners’ request: A contemporary Moroccan flair kitchen using royal blue, modern appliances ,an island for entertaining, and loads of storage. Designer secret: Working with the same layout, for the sink and stove area and borrowing space from the small adjacent room was the best solution to make this underutilized small kitchen into a the perfect entertainment space and adding a island for their entertaining purposes. I wanted to to create a feature wall displaying Laila’s & Mahar’s colorful and vibrant characters The royal blue Moroccan tile was the starting point, we decided to keep the cabinets white for a classic look and then layer in a rich royal blue for accent colors that grounds all the elements together. Brushed oil bronze hardware adds a warmth and richness. We want our kitchen to feel inviting and happy, a place where our family and guests can gather without being in our way during meal prep time. This beautiful Mediterranean - Santa Barbara home has stunning bones, but needed a refresh on some of the finishes. Although we wanted to keep a Spanish feel, we didn't want Mexican tile everywhere. The kitchen received new tile on the backsplash, counter tops, copper sinks and cabinet hardware. The wood floor that runs through out the home replaced the exiting Saltillo tile. The cooking alcove for the range top was dated and arched. We opened up the arch to a more modern square. This gave the space more room. We added new tile that still has a Spanish feel, but a bit more contemporary. The fireplace in the adjoining great room received a new façade with a teal colored aged tile. This updated the space and popped a bit of color in the room.

Sato Architects was hired to update the kitchen, utility room, and existing bathrooms in this 1930s Spanish bungalow. The existing spaces were closed in, and the finishes felt dark and bulky. We reconfigured the spaces to maximize efficiency and feel bigger without actually adding any square footage. Aesthetically, we focused on clean lines and finishes, with just the right details to accent the charm of the existing 1930s style of the home. This project was a second phase to the Modern Charm Spanish Primary Suite Addition.
